Merge Transit instrument, Transit telescope, Meridian circle edit

We have 3 articles describing forms of the same instrument or the exact same instrument. Looks like they need to be merged or made more encyclopedic in some way. Transit instrument seems to be the most inclusive heading so I directed the merge here. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 20:34, 3 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

More definition problems edit

Transit instrument is more than just astronomical. "Transit" refers to a specialized type of Theodolite. Also Transit circle (engineering)[1]. This ref, Modern astrometry By Jean Kovalevsky uses the term "Meridian circle" for all forms of Astronomical transits. Also Astronomical transit seems to have the wrong title, "Astronomical transit" references overwhelmingly as another name for a Meridian circle[2], not when "one celestial body appears to move across the face of another celestial body". So there is a bit more of a cleanup needed. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 15:05, 4 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
