Place of birth disputed

edit

Currently, the article says Browning's place of birth is MacKay, referenced to the FIBA archive (reference number 1). However, an IP claiming to be the subject contacted the Help Desk saying that this is incorrect - it should be Melbourne. She tried to change the article herself, but it was reverted for lack of a reliable source. I have marked it as dubious until the question is resolved.

I've found some limited indication that FIBA and Scobo have got hold of the wrong information, but I can't find a reliable source for the correct information. Should we remove place of birth completely? I suppose someone would only put it back with two references. This is where "verifiability, not truth" runs into problems. Perhaps someone could look for articles in Australian newspapers. Google doesn't find them for me. Dbfirs 10:00, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's a BLP, remove disputed information, then look for better sourcing. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 10:53, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for clarifying that, Dodger67 - I knew that but I had forgotten it. I have searched through my library's databases (Australia/New Zealand Reference Centre, Literary Reference Center Plus, and MasterFILE Complete) without finding any reference to Tracey's birth place. --Gronk Oz (talk) 11:02, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for removing the wrong claim. We'll watch to see that no-one puts it back. Meanwhile, if anyone can search local newspapers, there must be some mention in the Melbourne or Victoria press. Dbfirs 11:56, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
