i just gave this article a considerable overhaul. there are a few things that still require immediate attention.

• what year did thomas cunningham start?
• there are bits of the school template that need to be filled in, notably the logo and motto. does thhs even have a motto?
• i know that the class of 1990 was interviewed for admission, but that 1992 was not. does anyone know if 1991 was?
• maybe there should be something about the now-defunct enrichment program
• the intro should probably be fleshed out

also, i graduated several years ago so some of the information i've provided may be outdated. please correct it if you notice anything. also, i left in the thing about the "senior project" even though there was no such thing when i graduated. can anyone confirm? Cunningham started in 2000. I have absolutely no proof of this other than the fact that I attended 1998-2002 and he started in my junior year. No clue about the "senior project." Bangdrum (talk) 00:52, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

LaGuardia

I have removed the following sentence:

It is rumored that LaGuardia closed the school because a relative of his failed to gain admittance.

It is my feeling that rumors are, by their very nature, not encyclopedic. if on the other hand, someone can cite some reputable source which claims this as a even a possibile explanation for the school's closure, by all means put it back (with a citation of course!).

that citation does indeed say that the school's admissions were based on an examination, a fact which i neither disputed, nor removed; i just moved it into the section on admissions. I fail to see where that source says anything about this rumor. Bgruber 21:13, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Prominent Faculty

In the info template it says "Prominent Faculty" what determines who is prominent? CuBiXcRaYfIsH 04:59, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

when i originally added the infobox, the faculty field was described as simply "Faculty" and I took that to mean "number of faculty members." the template has since been changed to clarify the field's intent. Actually, now that i look at it, i'm even less sure of the field's intent... is it supposed to be a number, or is supposed to be a list of particularly prominent faculty members or what? looking around, it seems this is already under discussion at Template_talk:Infobox_School. Neutrality

I added the header that this article is written a bit too much like an advertisement. I do not doubt that this school is outstanding, but being that this is an encyclopedia article, it needs ...

1. ... to be written from a more neutral point of view.

2. ... to enhance the neutrality, there needs to be some citations to support the rather lofty claims that are being made here. I do not doubt the claims are true, but they ring hollow without support.

i would just like to point out that a lot of what you tagged was added just in the last few days by one anonymous editor. much of it makes little sense (for example that the school is "actually considered a specialized high school;" it either is one or it isn't one, and it isn't) and i will remove it. I absolutely agree Bgruber! Not having enough familiarity with the school, it was hard to tell if some of these claims were flat out wrong or if they were true, and simply lacking support. "Notable" Alumni

WikiProject Schools has a policy outlined at WP:WPSCH/AL. To quote:

A notable alumnus ideally is somebody who has an article in Wikipedia, or would warrant one based on WP:BIO or WP:MUSIC.

So, any alum who has an article is by definition "notable". The fuzzy area is when a person doesn't (yet) have an article; do they meet the notability requirements to have an article? If they do, then they may be included.

If I may make a recommendation: My exploration of school articles shows that alumni are either listed alphabetically, or, if the list is sufficiently long, are listed alphabetically according to common job related themes; for example "performing arts", "athletics", "sciences", or "arts and letters", "government and public service", etc. Exact categorization may depend on the exact list of alumni.

in all cases, there needs to be a reliable source that specifically states that the person in question attended the school. A source identifying the person and their accomplishments is not enough, unless it identifies their high school. I have found this to be a common mistake in referencing alumni on other pages. On a side note, I just deleted a bunch of unreferenced points in the "Accomplishments" section that had been fact tagged since November 2007. There are some other athletic accomplishments that really don't appear to be encyclopedic. Placing very high at a state contest is notable. Winning a more local championship really has not been considered notable in most articles I have read. I also deleted a coach's name per WP:WPSCHOOLS/AG#WNTI. Cleanup template necessary?

Is the cleanup template necessary? Apparently it's been there since October 2011, more than a decade, with no reason for it to be there actually specified. Pineappman (talk) 02:49, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
