"made to resemble an old-style pre-PCC streetcar." I disagree. Altough I can not cite reliable sources on this matter, but I have seen a lot of pictures of tourist trolleys, and none of them had PCC-style. They are rater like Birney car or earlier streetcar design. Kneiphof 00:14, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- I beg my pardon, I wans't reading carefully enough. Kneiphof 00:16, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Skagway Street Car
editDespite Skagway calling their jitney's "street cars" that's not a conventional name for this type of vehicle. Furthermore, I wouldn't classify it as a tourist trolley either. n2xjk (talk) 02:00, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- The above post refers to a photo that someone put into the article a few hours ago. N2xjk is correct, and I've removed the photo. Those vehicles in Skagway are tour buses, albeit (replicas of) vintage configuration and style, not buses made to resemble trolley cars, which is what this article is about. - Sorry, I thought this was the right article for the image, as it's a tour bus fashioned to look like a street car. Maybe the article should be more specific about what constitutes a tourist trolley as it's not readily apparent to me why this one wouldn't qualify. Is it the engine cowling in front instead of a flat front? Fletcher (talk) 14:37, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, it's the front-mounted engine, which was very common in early (1910s-'20s) motor bus designs and is completely lacking from streetcar designs. I suggest you look at Wikipedia's streetcar article and maybe the Commons categories for buses and trams (streetcars), because no streetcars look like those Skagway buses. Early Ford buses, such as these, looked very much like them on the front, and from posts I found online it appears that the Skagway tour buses were replicas based on early Ford buses. - All right, thanks for feedback. Fletcher (talk) 16:20, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

For posterity, I'm including link here to the Skagway Street Car photo in question that was removed from this article. Perhaps it can be added to the Skagway, Alaska article. n2xjk (talk) 14:29, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, perhaps a more appropriate place for the photo would be Martin Itjen. I'm pretty certain that these buses were intended to resemble the buses Itjen operated in Skagway during the early 20th century. I've yet to have any time necessary to do research and confirm that, however. RadioKAOS – Talk to me, Billy 00:49, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
