editI mean seriously: "and since iOS 8 has opened up the Touch ID API, there's no telling where it could go next" - who the hell wrote this rubbish? Lets keep it factual guys.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.9.0.48 (talk) 00:53, 20 August 2014 (UTC) Also: "Only a few other smartphone makers have built fingerprint scanning into their phones, as with the Motorola Mobility Atrix 4G in 2011 and the Samsung Galaxy Alpha 4G in 2014,[1] although none of them were implemented into the operating system like Touch ID." Instead of firing off a huge list of smartphones with fingerprint scanners, here is a link to give you an idea of how outdated this is: http://webcusp.com/list-of-all-fingerprint-scanner-enabled-smartphones/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.208.250.162 (talk) 08:54, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- You should stop complaining and actually fix the article for yourself. I do not mean to WP:BITE you but I hate people who just complain without fixing it themselves. FiendYT 17:59, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- That's harsh - hopefully you just hate when people do this, not the people themselves :)
I made a crude update to the admittedly very outdated History information, using just the source above (a blog). A better source would help. It's better than before, but still could really need more work.
The POV/Marketing text mentioned is no longer in the article, so I didn't touch anything else. Tøpholm (talk) 20:33, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Merge instead of delete?

- Thanks for the note. Did you see this article? In my view, the article helps establish Touch ID as independently notable, separate from the iPhone 5S. CaseyPenk (talk) 19:09, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- Touch ID is also available on the iPhone 5C so it wouldn't make much sense to merge it with the iPhone 5S page as it is significant to more than one article.3193th (talk) 20:26, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- So you know, it's not available on the 5c. It will most likely be on future Apple products, though (and yes I'm expecting someone to cite WP:CRYSTALBALL here - nevertheless, we're going to end up creating this article in the future one way or another). CaseyPenk (talk) 17:05, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
- Keep. This has many facets to it, not least it's integration with Apple's stores (and potentially beyond). And has obvious likely inclusion in other products they release. So for moment no point in removal and certainly NOT integrated with just a single product. Jimthing (talk) 04:50, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

- Keep notable feature that will indubitably be introduced on more devices in the very near future. JOJ Hutton 22:44, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
Updates
editThis article is clearly in need of updates with poor grammar with short fragmented sentenced picked out of articles, using a future tense, refer to press releases and magazine articles but no links to Apple's official Knowledge Base documentation on its features. My proposed update has been reverted for excessive detail and supposedly personal tone. Do I take it someone else is rewriting this with not-as-excessive detail and not-so-personal tone? I can understand some rewriting and trimming, I can get verbose, but reverting to an outdated article with additional prime sources removed, unless it is temporary, awaiting a rewrite? Update for iPad
editiPhone supported devices are listed, but specific versions of iPads which support Touch ID are not listed. I suggest we include iPads as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.58.58.251 (talk) 18:30, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
