Move to Torquay Community College?

edit

The subject of this article is unclear. It seems to comprise both the currently existing Torquay Community College, which is probably notable per WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES and the existence of a few sources;[1][2][3][4] and Torquay Academy, which doesn't open until September 2012 and so probably fails SCHOOLOUTCOMES and for which I can't find much in the way of sources. So I'm uncertain: would moving and shifting the article's focus be appropriate or should this go to AfD? – hysteria18 (talk) 15:16, 27 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

It would appear that Torquay Community College is in the process of being renamed, i.e. the 2 are one and the same. How about adding the sources that you have found, then adding a redirect for Torquay Community College to here? Op47 (talk) 21:06, 28 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
The impression I got from this is that the Academy is the result of a merger between the Community College and Torquay Boys' Grammar School. I could be wrong though. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 14:55, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's never easy is it? If we are to take that source as reliable then it establishes the notability of Torquay Acadamy (by being the 1st of this type of merger), the notability of the Community College is shown above and the grammar school obviously has a substantial article anyway. I don't have any strong preference as long as the material in this article is not lost. Obviously very shortly, the Grammar school article will have to alter to say that it has merged. At that time then the acadamy will become the proper article. Whether a proper Community College article is written is up to Hysteria18. I will make the redirect as mentioned above then the article will at least exist. If there is any material that perhaps ought not to be in an article until September then by all means userfy it to my area so that it can be retrieved. It would perhaps be better to comment it out so that the reader can't see it but one of us can restore it in an instant when it becomes valid. Hope this helps. Oops, should've said, I was Hysteria18 – I tried to find a time when changing my username would be unobtrusive, but like you say, it's never easy. Anyway, I'm happy to write a stub for the community college and leave this mostly as-is for now, then take stock in September. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 22:45, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Since we are already in August, the simplest thing might be to wait until September. Normally when an institution changes its name or status, the earlier and later content would be merged, and the article would be under what will then be the current name, the later name. It would help to have some background about the type of merge for those less familiar with the UK educational system. DGG ( talk ) 01:44, 7 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • I've just come across this (pressing the random article button as it happens) and brought the content I can find together here, added in links in obvious sorts of places and created a redirect from TCC. It seems that the school has changed it's name and status as far as I can tell - the local press I can find online seems to have ignored the change and was still referring to TCC on 30/8/12. The council seems to refer to it as TA in it's 2012 admissions stuff though, so I'll assume that means it exists at least! If anyone with any local knowledge can find a source or two to confirm the change then that'd be just grand. And if I'm wrong then delete all the edits and smack me around the head with a bloater. Oh, I should add - it seems to be a sponsorship rather than a merger btw. From the little I can find. Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:23, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
