WAY too much detailed history, especially recent, on the page edit

Theres way too much history on the main "Toronto Blue Jays" page and not on "The history of the Toronto Blue Jays" page, we don't need to have a fully two paragraphs of history for each season since the 2000s, no other sports team's page on wikipedia has even close to that much. I suggest we mesh years together, and make shorter recaps of the seasons, and move all the more detailed history over to the "History of" page. Only on important years, such as 1985,1992,1993,2015/16, etc, do we have a full section dedicated to one year. I really don't think the main Toronto Blue Jays page needs to know about Brad Penny retiring while on a minor league contract. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johro77 (talkcontribs) 10:20, 14 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Also, i'm not trying to knock the people who have worked hard on this page, it's outstanding work but i feel it's TOO much. The way the Leafs have their history written on their page is much better and easier to get the jist of a few years of history in a small amount of time. I think we should try and take after them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johro77 (talkcontribs) 10:34, 14 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Leventio has done an amazing job at making the Leafs article a good article. Currently, of Toronto's professional North American sports teams, only the Toronto Blue Jays article is neither a Good Article nor a Featured Article (the Leafs, the Argos, and Toronto FC are good articles, and the Raptors article is featured). I mean, honestly, this article has the potential for GA-status (I mean, it has the content at least). That said history from 1995 to present needs to trimmed significantly (and 1977 to 2000 to a lesser degree). We could trim the section down by just retaining the key sentence(s) of each year past 2000, and move the removed content to History of the Toronto Blue Jays (pre-2000s too, but to a lesser degree). Other than that, the rest of the article looks alright. That said, a lot of the proses in this article do need a citations (shouldn't be too hard to do, just tedious). Leventio (talk) 21:45, 15 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
I have to agree on this. The main article indeed contains too much stuff about the history and Wikipedia already has a more detailed article about the history of the Blue Jays. Since it had been a few years since Ross Atkins became GM, I have lifted the restriction of having the history article restricted to before his hiring. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:24, 16 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
You have lifted? I'm certain you're aware English Wikipedia doesn't work like that... isaacl (talk) 05:19, 16 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Apologies. I meant that I have originally added the sentence about the article being restricted to before the hiring of Ross Atkins to prevent recentism and I have since removed it upon realizing this. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 14:43, 16 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Kind of odd to have the sentence there in the first place; there isn't a compelling reason to limit the history article artificially (recentism should just be dealt with as with any other article). Thanks for reverting it. isaacl (talk) 15:04, 16 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
No problem. I have also cleaned up the History of the Toronto Blue Jays article. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:35, 8 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Personally, I think there simply shouldn't be a history page, and this is enough. This would be too short if it was lacking the history. People also only have to look for the Blue Jays page instead of another page. 173.166.14.37 (talk) 15:49, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
There's a reason why History of the Toronto Blue Jays exist. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:01, 17 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Muboshgu: Thank you so much for helping remove some unnecessary detail for the 2016 and 2017 Toronto Blue Jays. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:01, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely. I see there's more to trim. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:50, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Team Logo Change for 2020 edit

They have changed their current team logo to make it a secondary logo and the logo of just the bird's head is now the official logo (like the one on the cap). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 153.2.246.19 (talk) 14:33, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Not just that, but there's the powder blue alternate jerseys the Blue Jays introduced for 2020 as well. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:13, 21 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
  Done for both. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:25, 8 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

For the team logo, currently the article only includes the cap logo. After a quick look at other MLB team articles, it seems that in cases where the team's main logo and cap logo are identical, only the main logo is displayed, on a white base. With this in mind, I think the logo should be updated to a version on a white base, and in the "team logo" section of the article. Thoughts? Harrison401 (talk) 22:49, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sahlen Field edit

Is someone going to update the first paragraph? The Blue Jays are not playing at TD Ballpark anymore and have officially moved back to Buffalo (Sahlen Field). Maybe also add the improvements made to make the park fit for MLB play. <--maybe this would be for the Sahlen Field page? Pierson Strandquist (talk) 14:45, 3 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Done First paragraph has been updated. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:11, 20 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Roberto Alomar level of excellence removal edit

Since Alomar is not in the Blue Jays Level of Excellence anymore, should his block be removed from that section? Newfiebluejay (talk) 21:10, 9 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

I would say yes, but I would rather wait for consensus first. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:53, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Let us know since the Blue Jays have returned to Toronto for the remainder of the 2021 season. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 01:57, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Done It has been removed. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:49, 25 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Typo in third sentence: "the majority its home games" edit

Typo in third sentence: Should read "Since 1989, the team has played the majority [of] its home games at Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto." JJQuinlan (talk) 01:47, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Done Thanks for catching that typo! I fixed it right after you commented. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 01:52, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Jays Care Foundation edit

I wanted to ask if the Jays Care Foundation arm of the organization should be mentioned on the page or if it should have its own page, since I noticed a discussion on the length of the current page a few comments up. Please advise on the best course of action for this proposal and if there is another route open. Thank you. Datsa54 (talk) 20:22, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the Jays Care Foundation should be mentioned in the Toronto Blue Jays article, but please keep the section brief and sourced, both from the Jays Care Foundation itself and from third-party sources not affiliated with the Jays Care Foundation. Eventually, when the section gets larger, it would get its own article. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:06, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Johnny Au Thank you for your thoughtful and thorough explanation. Datsa54 (talk) 00:38, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
No worries, Datsa54. It will be added when the time comes. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:13, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Semi-protected edit request on 2 October 2023 edit

It says the Blue Jays made the playoffs via the wildcard in 2020 and 2022. They have also qualified via the wildcard in 2023 however that hasn't been updated as of yet. Iceman121982 (talk) 06:35, 2 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Done I have added it myself, though it has been further updated since with the Jays losing both Wild Card games to the Twins in 2023. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 14:05, 2 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
