I contacted someone with access to Tennisbase plus the contemporary media, and here are the results: Trabert defeated Gonzales in head-to-head matches outdoor in 1956 by a score of 15-11: including 1-1 on grass, 5-5 on cement, and 9-5 on clay. That is one amazing result for a rookie pro against prime Gonzales. You do not often hear this statistic being broadcast around very much, can't imagine why. Of course, Gonzales held a large edge indoors on that portable carpet which the pros moved around to local gyms on the tour.
