Future Edit Plans: edit

I plan on editing this article in the coming weeks. The edits will be focused on bringing new sources into the article to create a more exhaustive representation of Toni Ko's successful career so far. First, I will be focusing on the lead section, which is unnecessarily brief. Second, I will be including more context on her early life to paint a clearer picture of what drove her to found NYX. Third, I will be filling the 15-year content gap in the NYX section, which will go into detail about Toni's strategies as CEO that helped grow her $500 million dollar business. Finally, I will be editing the Later Career section, which I feel doesn't provide adequate background information on the activities of her two most recent ventures. I also plan on including a picture on the page to make the article more visually compelling. These edits will hopefully bring the article closer to Wikipedia's requirements for biographies of living people.HoyaSaxa25 (talk) 13:08, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @HoyaSaxa25, and welcome to Wikipedia! It's great to see WikiEd introducing fellow Hoyas to editing Wikipedia! I'm sure the course is providing plenty of guidance, but having worked on this article a bit, I wanted to flag a few tips and guidelines to be mindful of for this article in particular.
  • Images: Wikipedia has a lot of policies related to images, and one of the most important is copyright. In order to be used on Wikipedia, images must be released with a Wikipedia-compatible license (particularly one that allows for commercial re-use). Most images you find on the internet have full copyright protection by default, and aren't compatible with Wikipedia. For Toni Ko, I've done some fairly thorough searching for usable images, but I haven't found any. The best image would be one you have taken personally. You can learn more about images at Help:Images.
  • Reliable Sources: I know this is something the course goes over, but be extra careful about reliable sourcing. Businesses and businesspeople tend to have a lot of self-published sources, press releases, and sponsored awards. Those can be acceptable for some basic facts (e.g., "this company was acquired for $X") but you want to generally avoid using them where possible. Independent, secondary sources are best. I searched for as many sources as possible last year, but there may be some more recent ones.
  • Promotion and Neutral Point of View: Related to reliable sourcing, a lot of writing about businesses/businesspeople tends to be promotional. On Wikipedia, it's important to keep the tone encyclopedic, rather than promotional. So we should state matter-of-factly what she's done in her career, but we don't want to be too effusive.
Overall, I think this may be a difficult article to make extensive additions to, but I'm hopeful you're able to because she's an impressive person and there are many gaps in the article. Let me know (or your instructor or WikiEd) if you have any questions. Best, Politanvm talk 15:16, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
