Authorship Bias?

I just read two articles - this one on Disney Sea and another on Disney's California Adventure. The DCA article uses a LOT of real estate criticizing the park, reporting on failures, etc. On the other hand, this DisneySea article is very upbeat. This is ironic because, despite the numbers, if you ask around Tokyo, the general, overwhelming consensus about DisneySea is that it's not very good. I think the disparity has to do with the relative availability of english-language sources of information critical of DCA. At the very least I was expecting to read something here which at least mentioned the many quite significant teething troubles of DisneySea - the article as written basically has nothing negative to say at all.

Just stating that there is an overwhelming consensus that Disney Sea isn't good doesn't really prove it. You need to provide source material that says that, and then a reference to the link. I could just as easily say that I went to Disney Sea myself because a number of people recommended the park to me, which is true, yet how can that actually verify that the park is popular or not, since there is no way for you to prove or disprove my statement.

This page should be cleaned up, along with the "ports of call". Some are done but half finished. Any photos should be added to show the park, as it is the 2nd most visited park in the world. I can't comment on the DCA article since I haven't read it, but the two parks opened within a short time of each other, so they were..... appropriately.... compared since they were two new-in-concept Disney parks. DisneySea (just the park portion) cost well over $4 billion dollars. DCA cost aprox. 700 Million, which includes the parking lot demolition and infustucture (pipes, sewage, etc) of the park. The entire expansion, which includes Grand Californian and Downtown Disney cost aprox 1.4 Billion. Considering a major ride like the 1995 Indy attraction at Disneyland cost around $120 million (and that's not adjusted for inflation) $700 Million is a ridiculously low amount of money to build a brand new Disney park.

DCA was built on the cheap, while DisneySea was built with excess and indulgences never seen before, much less a theme park. Several critics pointed fingers at Esnier and DID compare the two parks. We get a ferris wheel, japan gets a 200 foot tall volcano and taj mahal. Honestly, it's a travesty we didn't get this park in Long Beach as planned, but still... it would've never had the capital that OLC had to build DisneySea with.

Also, the park is considered to be the 'date park' of the two Disney Theme parks in Japan. Everyone I met seemed to comment that DisneySea makes the park next door look like a carnival. Attendence is fantastic.... and I believe it is just behind Tokyo Disneyland park in annual turnstile clicks.

I've also heard from Japanese people that DisneySea is considered the more 'romantic' between it and Tokyo Disney. I think it's clever that they managed to create this image of the park (there's not much to support it while your there, but it is a great park)

---Reading through the article, quite a few of the sentences seem to be close to being run-on sentences and make it hard to understand. I suggest pulling out the detailed attraction (park ride) descriptions and listing them under their own section. That way, I believe it would be easy to keep the "Layout" section while eliminating the excess verbiage describing the attractions. I think this would provide a more streamlined and informative article. Let me know what you think and any objections. Aphidz (talk) 06:19, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

cleanup and pov flags removed

I just removed the cleanup and pov flags that had been added to the article. I didn't see any reason for them, and the person who added them provided no explanation of why they were added.

If you want to add them back, please do so, but also please provide some indication of what it is about the article that justifies doing so. Thanks. -- John Callender 17:11, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

This:

is not of any encyclopedic value.

This:

"Follow in the footsteps of Dr. Indiana Jones in a harrowing, life-or-death quest for the legendary Fountain of Youth."

is written in the wrong person. Wikipedia is not a travel guide.

It further gushes with peacock terms such as "popular", "merely", "complements" and "beautiful" and is generally flowery. It also does not cite sources and is generally unverifiable. SergioGeorgini 00:11, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree with the statement made, but right now the information is incorrect. Although Grand Californian is supposed to be 'inside' DCA, it's really not. It's on the outskirts on it's own ground facing DCA on one side and Downtown Disney on the other. MiraCosta is, quite literally, the 'berm' of the park. In order to reach the hotel, you must journey past the main gate, past the Aquasphere, then through the entrance colum, which *IS* part of the hotel, which you can enter (if you're stayng there) after walking all the way through the overhead berm and turn directly to the right where you will see MiraCosta's private entrace to DisneySea. kayoss 08:43, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Is there anyway we can actually get a list of attractions about this park? There are a number of great rides there like an Indiana Jones ride which is closer to the American one and not at all like the poor one at DisneyLand Paris, and a bunch of rides for kids like Flounder's Wild Ride. Not having a list of attractions makes it seem like DisneySea is not a theme park, and it's actually a very good one. 14:18, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
