Height discrepancy edit

In researching this article, my sole reliable source (non-blog) states that the Tokara is 12-14 hands high, or 48 to 56 inches (120 to 140 cm); however, the article's author states that it is 9.3-11.3 hh, or 100 to 120 centimetres (39 to 47 in). This is quite a difference. Does anyone familiar with Japanese breeds know how tall the Tokara really is? Wi2g 01:58, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Helium.com is generally a poor source, in my opinion. Try looking at the other Japanese breed articles here, as I know (because I started some of them) that the source material for them covers several of the Japanese breeds some of it is derived from more official sources. Also the International Museum of the Horse has a lot of breed articles and is a more reliable source too. See Misaki, Noma pony, Miyako Pony, Hokkaido Pony and Yonaguni (horse). Also, see the note at Wikipedia:WikiProject Equine/to do beneath "Toakara" where I list the best source I found on all the Japanese ponies. We also have a couple more that need articles created (The link was temporarily restored for now on the to do -- we need to verify it's the same breed -- I created a redirect but don't want to dump the to do until we're positive). Thanks for the heads-up on Helium.com; thought it was the best I could do for a source. For some reason, though, I can't access the "Toakara" link on the to-do list. Wi2g 15:46, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
The actual ref is http://www.fao.org/AG/AGAInfo/programmes/en/genetics/documents/Interlaken/countryreports/Japan.pdf "Country Report (For FAO State of the World’s Animal Genetic Resources Process)", Editorial Committee Office of the Japanese Country Report, Animal Genetic Resources Laboratory, National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences, Japan.], but I see it's being wonky at the moment. Even going to root page (fao.org) is down at the moment. Maybe their server is down or something. In the meantime, check out the other refs on those other Japanese horse articles, they may help. Thanks again; I kept getting a "problem loading page" error message and will check the other sources. Finished the copy edit, and I look forward to pitching in on the project because I love horses! Wi2g 18:35, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
