Merge: Ligature (music) edit

How about merging this with Ligature (music) ? Peter S. 14:31, 31 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

As a professional musician, I have never heard a tie (or slur) referred to as a ligature, despite what it says in the ligature article. Most people use "ligature" exclusively to refer to early-music notation. —Wahoofive (talk) 16:08, 31 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Tie vs. slur edit

How do you tell the difference between a tie and a slur when the slur has the same notes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.146.148.74 (talk) 00:37, May 29, 2006 (UTC)

this passage about tied notes makes me even more confused. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.45.110.240 (talk) 08:01, October 1, 2006 (UTC)

When are ties allowed? edit

Is the tie in the 18th bar of this music [1] (see the 1959-2.gif image in that download) allowed between the D (1/2 note, I guess it should be a 1/4 note, but whatever) and the subsequent D (1/16th note) in this E-flat major treble clef staff? The free software Rosegarden program doesn't seem to allow me to enter it [2]. Can ties be "across" other notes that are played in between? PeterKnaggs (talk) 18:11, 4 December 2010

Seems like a legitimate tie between the half (yes, half makes sense there) and the sixteenth in the same voice. I don't know if you need to do anything special for divisi passages in Rosegarden— haven't used it. __ Just plain Bill (talk) 23:30, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Additional citations edit

Why and where does this article need additional citations for verification? What references does it need and how should they be added? Hyacinth (talk) 23:52, 4 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Example? edit

It would be nice to see an example of 'Several notes in succession can be tied together. Such a succession can also be part of a larger, slurred phrase, in which case, ties and slurs must be used simultaneously and distinguishably.' 31.48.111.59 (talk) 14:57, 9 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
