For reference: how to create the 'dots' graphic for council's political structure

For anyone editing the page after election results and wanting to change the 'dots' graphic to show the change in parties' numbers, it was created using this tool: Parliament Diagram. Table for election results

It's not an election results table, but a table of current composition - in other words, the party affiliation that each councillor has right now in rows of their ward and columns referring to their year of election. This gives a very clear indication of which councillor in each ward is facing re-election next. It is correct and intended to show them all as Thurrock Independents as that is their current affiliation. Maswimelleu (talk) 14:44, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

This article relates to the Council and its members, not elections to it. The argument that they ought to be shown as UKIP refers to the 2015 and 2016 election pages rather than here. If you can find a way to clearly and cleanly show that they were elected as UKIP and defected then you could try it, but I don't think there's a good way to show it and I don't think the information is useful or informative. The source supporting that table is a council page listing their current party affiliations so to change it to show them as UKIP would not reflect that source and require it to be changed. It'd also be contrary to the precedent we use in other articles in which defectors are counted as part of their new party once the council composition webpage is updated. Financial difficulties are not history

Having just watched the BBC Panorama programme about this, I would say that the council's "Financial difficulties" are very much a present issue and should stand as a separate sub-heading rather than under the "History" section.
