"However, despite the other new features being included in MSN Messenger 7, this feature did not make it due to large copyright issues that would be faced by Microsoft." edit

This was added without a citation. Further, I believe that it is incorrect.

The Netgen team had acquired consent from all major US music labels to ship the audio-sharing feature. Then the team was disbanded and most staff was moved onto the MSN Messenger team. The stated goal of the members of Netgen who moved to Messenger was to 'inject their DNA' into the Messenger team and product.

However, none of the decision making-level staff of Netgen moved to Messenger. That left feature selection at the mercy of the existing decision makers on the Messenger team. The audio sharing feature - and most every other threedegrees feature, including features that were completed and ready to be shipped in the next version of the threedegrees add on - was scrapped by those MSN Messenger decision makers.

It had nothing to do with copyright.
