I tried to avoid slanting the article too much toward my POV (very skeptical of Thraco-Illyrian). However, I have the impression that Thraco-Illyrian is no longer favored, so I've indicated that. If someone has evidence that this impression is exaggerated, please provide references. From what I've read, I'm pretty certain that Thraco-Illyrian is currently treated as very hypothetical, and it is not the dominating theory in the field. I also plan on starting Thraco-Phrygian. Not sure if Thraco-Illyrian and Thraco-Phrygian are necessarily mutually exclusive. However, if the attested Messapian language is included in Thraco-Illyrian, there is the obvious problem that Messapian and Phrygian (also attested) inscriptions do not suggest any close relation to each other, aside from PIE, AFAIK. By the way, I've read Paliga's quote in context (I have the pdf at hand) and I saw nothing to substantiate a statement such as Thracian and Illyrian being as close as Czech or Slovak, or even Portuguese and Spanish (though that doesn't seem as wild as the Czech--Slovak comparison); always possible of course. I will link the pdf later, in the article. It is primarly concerned with toponyms, not with discussing Thraco-Illyrian. To put things in perpective, it is quite a claim to even state that Dacian and Thracian were as close Czech and Slovak. Alexander 007 13:29, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm also going to start a Daco-Thracian article (Thraco-Dacian will be a redirect). Alexander 007 15:02, 26 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Actually, there is not enough to justify Thraco-Phrygian, and I will redirect it to a new article:Classification of Thracian. Alexander 007 13:37, 28 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
