i get that it has the mildest winters in the state, but wow, there's hardly any snow. why isnt it more like Spokane, where the climate is actually slightly drier, including during winter, but the annual snowfall total is tripled? it's hard to imagine how Spokane could get so much more snow than this town when they have almost identical temperatures and track so closely on rain. Also weird is that in this town, but nowhere else, snow clusters in December. I just have to wonder since this is such a small town that the data might be corrupt, with a snow sensor that's turned off much of the time. But even that wouldnt explain the odd pattern with December. Soap 13:59, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

older climate data (even just five years ago) didnt mention snow at all: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Thompson_Falls,_Montana&oldid=886247054#Climate . If there are only a few years of snow in the record, the bump in December might just be due to the effects of a single storm, but when I checked the snow records I saw totals going back to 2010, so it would need to also be that the old records were deemed of low quality or that the station moved. there are nearby towns like Soap Lake that have very little snow despite having similar (or even slightly colder) temperatures than Thompson Falls, but they are also clearly less rainy, so i still suspect something is wrong with our data. Soap 10:42, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
