Tyron was a beaver hat maker (DNB s.v. Tyron), which eventually caused the virtually extermination of these animals. He traveled as far as to the Antillas "making beavers". He earned his living (lifelong) processing the skins of animals exclusively killed for the purposes of fashion and military equipment, beaver hats being part of the standard equipment of the military at the time.
This article makes no reference to Tryon as a sugar merchant, nor his and his descendants association with Barbados. Additional references have been added to balance the over reliance on a few sources.
