23:49, 3 January 2006 Hydrargyrum (removed ... flagrant abuse of superlative) 'Almost unique' was the phrase used in my source; not having made a detailed study of the nude as a subject in early colonial art I'm unable to say where 'rare' is or is is not a more appropriate description; but if Hydrargyrum feels so strongly on the issue I'll let it stand:). (Flagrant superlativism is unfortunately the common currency of art appreciation).
