Partnership

In various newspapers in July 1938 declare a "Partnership Dissolved" between J.Wyburn and T.Battersbee Schoolmasters of Chiselhurst, Kent. It does not give an indication of what the partenership was. MilborneOne (talk) 09:47, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

• We have it below from the Cockpit 73/74 that Chislehurst Academy passed from Mace->John Wyburn->Battersbee and that during VizTelly's time Wyburn was getting old. It would seem extremely probable with little other viabble explanation Battersbee formed a partnership to join-run the Chislehurst Academy in Wyburn's latter years and probably that by 14 July 1938 Wyburn was happy to hand over the reins.Djm-leighpark (talk) 10:09, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Chislehurst Academy

This is mentioned in The Cockit No. 73 & No. 74. This extracts from Glances back through Seventy Years by Henry VizTelly; a pupil from the Academy. While it mentions cricket there is no indicatation to me that mentions Battersbee however I am not certain either way.Djm-leighpark (talk) 06:33, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

I found this at https://chislehurst-society.org.uk/Pages/About/Queries/Furzefield.html According to Webb's History of Chislehurst, Furzefield was a house on Heathfield Lane, the second house after Mead Road. It apparently stood on the site of a school 'which was kept in 1825 by Mr Mace, and afterwards, in succession, by Mr Mr Wyburn and Mr Battersbee. The latter gentleman was churchwarden of the parish, and was much esteemed by [Canon Murray].' The house was rebuilt in the middle 19thC. MilborneOne (talk) 07:57, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

• I presume that the Thomas Battersbee that was baptised in Bromley on the 30 September 1795 is this one, his parents were William and Sarah. Although the 1841 census doesnt show realtionship Thomas, his wife Ellen and daughter Eleanor are listed at the "Common" Chiselhurst with about twenty children mainly aged 10, 11 and 12. So certainly was operating a school in 1841. In 1851 the family are now listed as being at the "Chiselhurst Academy". By the time of the 1861 Census they (Thomas and Ellen and two daughters) had moved to 2 Albion Villas, Camberwell and he is described as a "House Proprietor", clearly at 70 he has retired from teaching.
