Re: Thomas Macaulay

edit

The article states that "Thomas Macaulay mistold" the story of Aikenhead. In what way was it mistold? What is the source for that judgment, ie, against what standard is Macaulay being judged as inaccurate?Moioci (talk) 16:03, 16 January 2008 (UTC) Update: I see that that text came directly from the page at uua.org. My questions still stand.Moioci (talk) 16:09, 16 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

This article seems to have been cut and pasted from the unitarian website linked to at the bottom of page. Unfortunately I know nothing at all about this case so I can't attempt to remedy the situation myself. Jamrifis (talk) 12:04, 8 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Having written the original version and some subsequent changes I'll just say it was without any reference to any such Unitarian website page. AllyD (talk) 17:29, 8 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Then I would suggest the Unitarian page has lifted your page from wikipedia, as the bottom two paragraphs are a word for word copy: http://www25.uua.org/uuhs/duub/articles/thomasaikenhead.html

Sorry for any implied insult, it's just these acts of plagiarism usually flow in the other direction. Jamrifis (talk) 21:30, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Age

edit

If Aikenhead was born in March 1676 and was executed on 8 January 1697, how can he of been 20 years of age at his death? Brough87 (talk) 12:25, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

His 20th birthday was March 1696. His 21st birthday would have been in March 1697. Therefore, when he was executed in January 1697, he was still 20 years old. RoastDack (talk) 20:29, 8 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

But these dates are (presumably) under the old Julian calendar which was not only several days behind the modern Gregorian calendar introduced in 1752, but also began the year on 25th March. So the correct answer might take a bit of working out. Cassandra. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.74.45.3 (talk) 13:52, 19 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Biography/early life

edit

Aside from a guess at the month of this birth, this theoretically biographical article says nothing at all about its subject occurring before the act for which he lost his life (in fact, it begins with the indictment). Who were his parents? What influences might have led him to think and act the way he did? --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 22:59, 8 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea but that magick claim is pretty ridiculous. Bozo33 (talk) 19:52, 4 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
