The Thirsty Beaver in 2018

Moved to mainspace by Bruxton (talk). Self-nominated at 15:50, 10 November 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Thirsty Beaver; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.Reply

  •   New to mainspace, long enough, well sourced (though might want to replace WP:WASHINGTONTIMES with another source's publishing of the AP story). Gave it a copyedit for grammar and some close paraphrasing. Photo is good, CC0. Approve ALT0, ALT1, ALT2 (which I've c/e'd).

The City Part of Town edit

Was this the inspiration for that South Park episode? As soon as I saw the picture in this article, that’s what it reminded me of (with Kenny’s house standing in for the bar in that episode, and SoDoSoPa standing in for the apartment building). It seems like the episode came out around the same time the developer was trying to buy the Thirsty Beaver, but I’m not sure if the similarity is intentional or just coincidence.2604:2D80:6984:3800:0:0:0:F2CD (talk) 17:49, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

I am not familiar with the show but I know there are a few other nail houses - I am not sure about bars. Bruxton (talk) 15:02, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'll have a go at this one. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:48, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Ah, what a sad story. I do think the link to "holdout" in the lead should display that word, however. (Could be "[[holdout|held out]] against two offers".)
Completed this Bruxton (talk) 15:28, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • No need for "Holdout" in the See also list, by the way, as it's already in use, though you might want to link it once in the article body.
Completed this Bruxton (talk) 15:28, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Not sure the 'Background' / 'History' split really works, as both sections describe the building's history. Most of the material would work in a 'History' section, with the last paragraphs ("The bar ... month.", and "In 2021, ... there.") of each of the two current sections in a 'Features' section.
I have rearranged the article Bruxton (talk) 15:40, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • I can't see the bras nailed to the entrances, presumably they're inside. Quite the feature.
Yes to get images I had to ask Flickr editors to change the license on their uploads - none of the interior yet.
  • The images run into the References, since the infobox takes up so much space. Might be as well to organize them in a gallery.
I have created a gallery
I changed the caption to read "mage of the beaver mural"
  • Spotchecks are fine. I've marked [7] Sprinkle's link as dead, no worries as it's already archived.

Summary edit

Well, that's about it from me. All good, basically. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:19, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
