How about this for the first paragraph: "Thin layer extraction is a chemical refining process that avoids mixing feedstock and refined chemical solutions. It typically involves cartridges filled with a porous material that has been coated in a thin film of solvent. The feedstock and refined solution flow through the cartridge one at a time, without mixing.
