Thevenard Island → Thevenard Island (Mackerel Islands) – To identify the location of the island as being part of the Mackerel Islands group, which comprises of ten islands in total 1.126.48.159 (talk) 06:03, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

• Oppose as unnecessary overprecision per WP:PRECISE. There is no other Thevenard Island. Station1 (talk) 07:11, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
• Oppose - Islands and Island groups on the coastline of Western Australia do not not need the distinction JarrahTree 09:26, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
• Oppose - the only justifiable reason to do this would be if there was some confusion in identification with some other similarly named island. There is no other similarly named island, and hence no confusion. (i.e. largely as per Station1.) Pdfpdf (talk) 09:26, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
• Oppose - as per comments above, why not invest your time improving the article (adding/wrapping references etc..) instead? Hughesdarren (talk) 09:45, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Some articles of islands in the Houtman Abrolhos group, Cocos Keeling Islands Group, Buccaneer Archipelego, Lacepede Islands, Mary Anne Group and Ashmore & Cartier Islands are identified in this way. However I note islands in the Whitsundays are not identified in this way (except for one, "Long Island (Whitsunday Islands)"), so it could be overprecision, or it could be helpful. I neither wish to be, or to sound, rude, but first, I think the above gives you a pretty clear idea of what more experienced editors think, and second, I think you are somewhat missing the point these editors are trying to communicate to you (apparently not particularly successfully!) The issue is what is referred to in wikipedia as "disambiguation", and the general principle in wikipedia is that if you don't NEED to disambiguate (abbreviated to dab), then don't do it. Yes, I appreciate and understand your comments that it could indeed be helpful, but I'm afraid that is not the primary policy consideration. Pdfpdf (talk) 10:48, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
