I don't see the purpose of describing this or that historian as "the last major historian of antiquity." I've variously seen this title given to Ammianus Marcellinus, Procopius, and Theophylact. The only real information contained in this attribution is about our periodization of Roman history, and our assessment of the quality of the historians we're discussing. But it doesn't really say anything about the person themselves. It's not a subject I care passionately about - I just thought I would bring it up.
