I've rewritten these paragraphs (I assume the second was added later) and added a link:

After his performance against Stoke former Saints manager David Merrington drew parallels with Arsenal's French striker Thierry Henry. The 30th October 2005 copy of the Mail On Sunday then linked Walcott with a bidding war between Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with bidding starting at £10 million next summer.

Simon Peach, Daily Telegraph, Mail, Times, every paper in the world!

The Mail on Sunday article mentioned certainly isn't the first piece in the media linking Theo Walcott to bigger clubs. I've added a link to an article from the Guardian which isn't the first either but has some good general information and mentions the transfer speculation. Pretty sure he was a youth player at Swindon between playing in Newbury and going to Southampton. Can anybody verify this?

Birthplace

I have removed his place of birth as "London" and "West London", as there is conflicting data on the ever reliable internet. Half the pages I read state "Middlesex", the others state "Newbury, Berks". arsenal.com says Middlesex BTW. He still lives near Newbury, in Compton, but certainly half the WWW has got it wrong, so we play safe and say neither. Andymarczak 10:23, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

I live in Compton Berkshire - and used to dodge him playing football in the street on my way home from work. He deffinatly grew up in Compton, and went to the Downs School Secondary school in the village. So i've added this. He does'nt live in the village now, although his family still do. User:keef30

This IP address keeps removing all external links except for, seemingly, his own, Theo Walcott Web.

Theo Walcott Web is Argentinia based, contains no original content or information (duplicate content), website only launched very recently. non-authoritative source.

There are numerous other Walcott genuine fan sites that have been in existance long before Theo gained his recent fame. These sites contain original content and fan discusions, though not official fair more deserving of a link than Theo Walcott Web, which appears to be an opportunistic site spamming wikipedia for visitors. In fact parts of this very article were formed from information from these other sites, for example www.theo-walcott.org.uk.

Please see article history and comments. IP continues to spam wiki with his site.

Proposed merge of Melanie Slade into this article

There's some discussion on the Melanie Slade article as to whether she's notable enough for an article in her own right. I have, provisionally, suggested a merge into this article, as her relationship with Theo is the only reason for any notability she has (contextual notability). I agree the two articles should be kept seperate, if Melanie was only famous for being the Girlfriend of Walcott, than it should be merged however now she has modeled in the sun and other medium and as models have their own pages it would only be correct to give her own. It could be argued that she only became a model because she is Walcotts girlfriend however it does not matter as she now is a model Behind the veil

Definition of "assists"

What definition are we using of "assists"? I'm aksing because although Walcott was crucial in Gilberto's goal on Saturday he did not get the last touch - and this was always how Fantasy Football defined assists when I used to play it about ten years ago! I think that Walcott's cross on Saturday is worthy of being called an assist; I'm just concerned that others might think otherwise and the stats table could get muddled. OK, I've answered my own question. Check out [2]. It only seems to work in Internet Explorer, but it does provide full stats for Premiership players and teams going back to the year dot. Theo Jerome -> Theo James

A couple of days back someone edited the article to say that Theo's middle name was Jerome, rather than James as the article had previously stated. I left the edit as I wasn't sure what was correct. However, a quick google shows that the only results for "Theo Jerome Walcott" is... ummm... [3]

Nicknames

"The Kid", "The Youngster", "Mr Speed" - are these really widely acknowledged nicknames? Surely the first two are just used as descriptive nouns rather than real nicknames? I'm going to remove them. Probably in the World Cup, yes, but I remember one big manager (Wenger or Ferguson, I think) made a signing after only seeing a few videos of a certain player (I'm a bit hazy on the details, but I remember reading about it a few times). Also, Eriksson probably had scouts watch, at the very least, his U19 appearance and his reserve matches. A very big gamble, though, but Eriksson will be a hero if it works out. Jacob Walcott

I'm a Reading fan and i'd never heard that Jacob was Theo's cousin, I searched the internet and just found the phrase "distant relative" multiple times. As there is no credible source to state he is his cousin I will edit it.

International Appearances

Height

The given height of 5 ft 9 inches for Walcott is very unlikely. Edit request

In the "Family and personal life" section, the penultimate paragraph is out of date. It refers to the 2010 version of the FIFA game. The reference points to the 2013 version, which does not feature Walcott. 2013-14 FA Cup

Should Theo be credited as an FA Cup winner in 2013-14 with Arsenal? He made an app v. Tottenham. And clubs are given 30 medals to distribute. I'm pretty sure he got one? Even Chessers (who made 0 sub) got one. Blckbrr7 (talk) 16:51, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

In my opinion, the recently added last sentence of the "2017–18 season" section is trivial and should be deleted. If, however, it is to remain it should be re-written in grammatically correct English, perhaps along these lines: "Walcott wore the captain's armband in the 2017–18 EFL Cup quarter-final against West Ham United on 19 December 2017, which Arsenal won 1–0", followed by the citation. 92.26.172.4 (talk) 16:25, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

It's grammatically incorrect, it uses the purple prose "went on to hold the captain's armband" when it could just say "was captain," and it's arguably irrelevant trivia anyway since Walcott didn't score.
