Post-1972 edit

Needs a lot more on post-72 aside from a single source saying that not much happened in Derry after 72. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doopa (talkcontribs) 22:55, 16 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • The article's statement that little of note happened post 1972 has to be regarded as significant and worthy of raising suggestion that the article has been written with an agenda to promote one point of view over the other in the Northern Irish Political divide. Most historians of the troubles view 1973 as a turning point in the troubles whereby the majority of major atrocities carried out pre 1973 were by British/Unionist forces/paramilitaries against the Nationalist community while the majority of atrocities after 1973 were committed by Republicans against the security forces and wider civilian population. This leads the statement of "little happening in the city" after 1972 to suggest a claim at airbrushing any murders or atrocities committed by Republicans, the majority of which happened post 1973, out of the history of the troubles in order to paint a view that the violence was almost all one way. With the volume of articles both in print and online in relation to the flight of the Unionist population post 1972, this should be mentioned while the murder of the first WPC of the troubles, Linda Beggley, in Duke Street in a gun attack in 1975, would, I would think, be a milestone in the history of the violence. I would suggest this article be flagged as providing a biased viewpoint until a fuller record of the events post 1972 is documented in the article.
