Merge

This article should be merged into the Sir Leigh Teabing article. There's really no point in having this article seperate from the other one, is there? dposse 00:34, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

The point is that if someone types in "The Teacher" and gets redirected to Sir Leigh Teabing, that spoils the book/movie for them, so it shouldn't be a simple redirect. —Keenan Pepper 01:13, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

I have edited it because somebody obviously intent on revealing his identity screwed up the article. seriously, if one wants to know what the Teacher did and how he did it, they can proceed to the Teabing article. spoilers are not cool. -dogbert14

Redesign

The point is, Wikipedia ALWAYS contains spoiler warnings. It's perfectly possible to read an article about a film without finding out crucial elements of the plot, so this should be the same. Will2710 01:26, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but if you put a redirect in, it makes it plain what's going on before you've even had chance to read the spoiler warning - if you search for 'The Teacher', and get redirected to Leigh Teabing, his identity becomes obvious without you even having chance to see the spoiler warning. Redirect addition

To avoid spoilers, I have created a new page called The Teacher (redirect page). Before, when holding the mouse over the 'click here' link, the Teabing link could be seen in the link/security bar coming up as wikipedia.org/Leigh_Teabing or whatever. In this one, a redirect page takes you to the Teabing article, and when reading this article, if one hovers the mouse over the 'click here' link, all you can see is wikipedia.org/The Teacher (redirect). I think this is the right answer as it forces people to click on the link to find out, rather than inadvertently hover the mouse button over the 'click here' and accidentally finding out. Unprofessional

This whole is very unprofessional and silly. If someone clicks on the "Teacher" link it's because he wants to know about The Teacher. To treat our readers like children is extremely insulting and makes us look like a stupid fan site. --Tony Sidaway 22:35, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

I disagree entirely. It is quite possible that someone who had not read all of the book might want to read the article for details of the Teacher's activities. Granted, the article does not contain that, but I will get round to expanding it so as it does. This way, at least the reader has the choice whether or not to consciously discover the identity. How much effort does it take to click on one extra link to get to the page where you find that out? As much as I hate edit warring, I will continue to revert this, and I'm not above requesting official intervention if it continues. If the result is that the redirect stays, so be it. But I will not have the opinions of one person ruining it for the many unless Wikipedia officially designates that this is to be the case. I am acting in the interests of the majority here, not recklessly spoiling the book just because I consider it 'silly'. --Will2710|^Talk! 23:49, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
