When it is pointed out that both parties used the similar tactics, Kirk asks what was promised to Green and friends. Wealth, power respond the Excalibian. Plot section edit
Like many of the Star Trek TOS articles, the plot section of this article is too long and detailed. I know there's a tag for that and I wasted a few minutes of my remaining life looking for it, but I did not find it. Really: The Enterprise has been studying a uninhabitable lava-covered planet and is about to leave. Abraham Lincoln appears in space, in the viewscreen, and invites Kirk and Spock to visit the planet. They do so, in accord with the Enterprise's mission of seeking out new life, although they realize that the purported Lincoln must be fake. It develops that a creature made of lava is arranging a fight between good and evil, with Kirk, Spock, Lincoln, and Sarek representing good, and 1. 2. 3. 4. (brief description of characters) representing evil. The being says it does not understand the difference between good and evil. After some blah-blah-blah the conflict is over and Kirk and Spock are the winners. They were fighting for the lives of the crew of the Enterprise, while the evil team was fighting for power and wealth. Kirk explains this to the creature, which acknowledges the difference, and lets them go.
I don't know what dedicated fan wrote all these long plot sections. I appreciate the effort it required (unless they are copied from a blog somewhere), but a great deal of it is not needed, especially for such a turkey episode as this one.
