Not founded in 1958, and not officially called Priestlands edit

Several members of my family went there in the early 1950s when the school was located at the back of the Plaza cinema. It was created by the amalgamation of Romsey boys council school and some other schools. It moved to the new buildings in Priestlands in 1958. It is listed in 1960s directories as Romsey County Secondary School, not Priestlands

Here's a link to a page about the school pre-1958, including a pic of pupils from 1953: http://www.woodleynet.co.uk/school.htm

And there are loads of photos dating back to 1947 here http://www.woodleynet.co.uk/school-old-pics.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.55.48.120 (talk) 08:06, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Priestlands edit

I dispute that the school was ever officially known as Priestlands Secondary Modern. It was nicknamed Priestlands, but wasn't it always Romsey Secondary Modern (there was/still is a another Priestlands School in Hampshire, in Lymington.) Anyone else got any firm sources on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 145.246.240.14 (talk) 08:24, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd take issue with the above as I lived and worked in Romsey during the 1970's and '80's and made numerous visits to the school in an official capacity. It was known as Priestlands Secondary Modern at that time. The name changed in the late 1970's - possibly 1978 or 1979 - to Romsey School shortly after the arrival of a fairly young and dynamic head teacher which may or may not have coincided with the change to comprehensive. The school continued to be referred to locally as Priestlands for many years after the name change. Coincidentally, I also occasionally used to visit Priestlands School in Pennington, Nr. Lymington and this inevitably caused some confusion.HO 87 (talk) 19:44, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I went to Romsey School 1975-80. It quite definitely was NOT officially called Priestlands. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.78.161.16 (talk) 12:30, 10 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Deletion proposal edit

Keep - I expanded the article and don't want to see my work wasted :-) 203.117.143.29 00:54, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Keep - I agree that this article needs expansion, but this school is as note-worthy as any other UK secondary school.

I'll see what I can do over the next week. Daemonic Kangaroo 11:43, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • If it is only as note-worthy as any other UK school then it probably isn't notable, as most of them are not. Regarding this prize it is meant to have got last year, could you please provide a source? I did a search, for instance this is one, for them and failed to come up with anything at all about it. As a final suggestion for a improvement, you might like to look at WP:SCHOOLS3. Is a work in progress over there, but does give your a rough idea of what is being looked for. Mathmo Talk 12:05, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • I have expanded the article with much more information about the school so I think the article should be kept. Also more citations for verification have been added. MrAmberGold (talk) 08:05, 1 September 2011.

Houses edit

Since people kept edit warring about the names of the Houses, the statement is clearly "challenged". As such, it cannot be in the article unless it is verified by a reliable sources. I searched through the school's website and couldn't find one, but if someone else knows of one, please feel free to re-add with that source. Qwyrxian (talk) 00:44, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, well, a lot of other people have been changing it to other versions, so how do I know that they aren't right? In any event, Wikipedia does not rely upon what other people says. Any information which is challenged (which this info has been by several editors) must be removed until it can be verified by at reliable source. If you can find such a source (in this case, info from the school's website or other official paperwork will be fine), then tell me how to find it, and I will be happy to format it into a proper citation and add it for you.
