Reception Section edit

The reception section needs to be cleaned up. Someone was a dick and/or troll and has edited it with obvious bias. And I quote: "Reviews have been positive, yet wrong" and "This is because Roger Ebert is correct, this film is of low quality and should not be seen by anyone, ever." To be fair, they did cite that statement, I suppose. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.228.113.110 (talk) 04:58, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Game and waybacked edit

Someone has come out with a small videogame that is apparently inspired by some of Raid: Redemption [1]. Used archive.org's Wayback Machine on refs in Wikipedia's The Raid article (I think I managed to Wayback them all except the Twitter refs). --EarthFurst (talk) 12:02, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

references - separate in-studio blogs? edit

I wanted to check if it makes to separate out articles and interviews that are coming from people involved in the production itself. Obviously they're going to promote their own work which may upset WP:NPOV, yet contain facts and information that are useful for the article. AngusWOOF (talk) 03:52, 13 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Title? edit

BBFC, IMDB and Sony list this as 'The Raid', however it's clearly been presented with the suffix 'Redemption' in some places. Anyone know whether it had a wide release under the current page name? shellac (talk) 13:41, 18 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

This blog post by the director suggests they couldn't use the shorter title in the US, if I read correctly. So I guess 'Redemption' was used in the US? shellac (talk) 13:59, 18 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yep, it has Redemption in the US. Hopefully the third paragraph in the opening section explained it alright. AngusWOOF (talk) 18:31, 18 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for confirming that. It seemed such a half-hearted rename it wasn't clear to me that they'd gone through with it. shellac (talk) 22:52, 18 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Would it not be better to use the non-US title as this is not a US film?--Kevgallacher (talk) 22:08, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Since this comment was posted nearly three years ago and no objections appear to have been raised, I'll change the title to the standard one and add a note that it's known by a slightly different name in one particular country, United States. I hope that's all ok? Willowandglass (talk) 17:54, 1 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

More Reviews edit

I moved these reviews off the main page per WP:Citation overkill, which recommends three references most representative.

  • Anton Sirius (2011-09-10). "Anton Sirius With His First TIFF 2011 Report, Asskicking Edition! THE RAID! KILLER ELITE!". Ain't It Cool News . Retrieved 2011-09-14.
  • Aldrich, Ryland (2011-09-09). "Tiff 2011: the raid will kick you in the head and make you like it". Twitch Film. Retrieved 2011-09-09. The best action movie in decades.
  • Gorber, Jason (2011-09-09). "THE RAID at TIFF 2011". Filmfest.ca. Retrieved 2011-09-09. An absolutely badass film, an instant classic
  • Billington, Alex (2011-09-09). "Toronto Review: 'The Raid' – One of the Best Action Movies in Years!". firstshowing.net. Retrieved 2011-09-12.

The reviewers are idiots. The movie is well-paced and well directed, but the plot and dialog might have been written by a small child without parental supervision. A totally throwaway film. Anyone who has seen Sha Po Lang or Bittersweet Life will dismiss The Raid as an abortion.

Condense Summary? edit

Saw a request to condense the summary which is around 800 words. Most film summaries are recommended to be 300-700. Anyone want to take a shot at this without losing essential plot? AngusWOOF (talk) 19:05, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Very Similar Movie edit

Dredd is a movie very similar to this one. A building on lock down, police can't get out, trying to regain control of the building. Not sure if this could be mentioned in either this article or the the Dredd article, in a See Also section or something similar. --82.170.113.123 (talk) 01:11, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Can you find some secondary media sources that relate the two films? AngusWOOF (talk) 15:18, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Since Dredd came after this film, I would put mention of this film there. For example, The Washington Post says, "Dreadful news, Dredd fans. If you also caught Gareth Evans’s like-minded Indonesian thriller 'The Raid: Redemption' earlier this year, then 'Dredd 3D' will strike you as derivative." It looks like Dredd is pretty well-maintained (especially the "Critical reception" section), so I would ask on the talk page about how to include it. I think that the similarity is too tenuous for an uncontroversial "See also" section. Erik (talk | contribs) 15:28, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Japanese name edit

Removed the Japanese name from article. The reasons given within brackets seem generally irrelevant.

<!-- Please do NOT remove the Japanese title from the intro, for reasons: (1)The franchise features Japanese characters as a major plotline, (2)Coproducer and Evans' wife Rangga Maya Evans is half-Japanese, (3)Heavy involvement from Sony Pictures -->

Well, (1) is completely irrelevant, (2) is completely irrelevant, (3) could be relevant, but Sony Pictures is not a Japanese company but an American subsidiary, hence irrelevant. Besides, the Japanese name is just a transliteration of the English title, anyway. 惑乱 Wakuran (talk) 22:32, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

The 1st film features no Japanese characters, anyway. The only Japanese name in the credits is Mike Shinoda on the soundtrack. 惑乱 Wakuran (talk) 00:07, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

In the third paragraph: "A third sequel was initially planned [...]" edit

Shouldn't that be a second sequel? With The Raid 2 being the first sequel. Anad0 (talk) 01:33, 24 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

The specific wording is beside the point. This was wishful thinking by fans misrepresenting the sources.
Evans didn't "announce" Raid 3, and it is an overstatement to say anything was planned he merely said he had ideas in his head for Raid 3 and stated that nothing was written down. That was 2015, and he said possibly 2018 or 2019. Since then he said he felt story was complete and a third film was unlikely.
Evans never "announced" anything, the film never started any stage of development, there was no cancellation because there was nothing to cancel. -- 109.78.199.78 (talk) 13:15, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
