Change to thesis os article 10/08/17
editI made a change to the thesis of this article, which I thought I'd explain. The original first sentence of the article was The Pictures Generation was both the name of an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.... and a means to an end in being the first formal labeling of a group of artists.... I'm not sure that the development of the show at the Met and giving a name to the group of artists in it are separate outcomes. You can't write about (or organize an exhibition about) a historical period without first drawing borders around the thing you're trying to describe. The term "pictures generation" did not originate with Eklund and this show; he is more the person who has tried hardest to define it up to this point. The show is perhaps better seen as Eklund's contribution to a conversation that started with Crimp's show and essays, and then extended through other exhibitions and art history writing before arriving at the Met. And now the writers who are taking issue with Eklund's exclusions are pushing the discussion along.
Thanks. I hope I am understanding the orginal wording correctly and that I've improved things with my changes. KR26740 (talk) 03:44, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
