Risk of speedy deletion per WP:ADVERT edit

Hi, I'll open dialogue on this rather than prod the article straight off since there's scope for it to be improved, but I will add relevant templates highlighting the need for cleanup. At present the article, in its current condition, is liable for speedy deletion per WP:ADVERT/WP:SPAM, and it also contains original research in the opening paragraph when describing the reasons why the magazine was created. This article needs to cite references to avoid claims of spam/promotion ("A company, corporation, organization, team, religion, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of coverage in secondary sources" - these sources need to be cited). There's also no lead in. Every article should have a lead in. I won't prod the article, but this is what needs to be done:

  1. Opening paragraph needs to be converted in to a proper lead in.
  2. Original research needs to be removed, or references need to be cited to back up the claim that "the magazine was created due in part to the loss of readership among young people in the Bangor area, a problem afflicting many major newspapers across the country. Similar to publications including RedEye in Chicago and Quick (newspaper) in Dallas, the publishers began The Edge in an effort to pull readers back into readership and serve a niche not being serviced by other media in the area."
  3. Secondary sources need to be cited which reference this publication, in order to prove notability.

Hope this helps! ColdmachineTalk 21:39, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I see a fair number of Bangor sources referencing articles in the paper, but not many covering it except for the Channel 2/6 story I just ref'd. I don't know if it's "notable" enough for an article by strict application of policy, but it's definitely not speedy territory, IMHO. (Bangor-area resident, not affiliated with paper besides occasional reader) (Besides, if it's staffed by people who were laid off by the main newspaper in the area, just how much coverage do you think it's going to give it? :-) )--SarekOfVulcan 22:39, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
