Prequel?

This isn't really a prequel, is it? I haven't seen it, but from the previews, it seems to be taking place at the same time as the original Lion King. RickK 07:24, Aug 22, 2004 (UTC)

As far as I know, the movie starts before the The Lion King has started, but it roughly tells the same story from a different perspective, so I agree that it's not a real prequel. --Conti| 22:51, Aug 22, 2004 (UTC)

According to the film's own publicity, it's neither a prequel nor a sequel, it's an "inbetween-quel". —Preceding unsigned comment added by MrItty (talkcontribs) 13:13, 5 November 2004 (UTC)

I live in Britain, and have a straight-to-video film called "Timon and Pumbaa" which was released years ago, before Lion King 2. Yet, it seems to roughly or exactly the same film as Lion King 1.5. I'm not getting confused with the TV series "Timon and Pumbaa", though I'd always presumed that was spun off from the "Timon and Pumbaa" film. Was it re-named for its DVD release? Has anyone else seen it? boffy_b 16:48, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

I think it is along the words of 'companion movie' —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.118.144.236 (talk) 18:43, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Song of the South

I deleted the part about Song of the South being "banned" purely because the statement is inaccurate. (Ibaranoff24 04:55, 6 January 2006 (UTC))

False tag?

Does this article really require the stub tag? Rlloyd3 03:17, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Doubt it. I'll go remove it. Blue Phoenix 13:53, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Relationship to Shakespeare's Hamlet

The Lion King is not entirely based on Hamlet; there are certain key plot elements from the Shakespeare that do not appear in the film, such as Gertrude marrying Claudius after King Hamlet dies. Skiasaurus 14:40, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

In addition, Simba is neither Danish nor human.
That's ridiculous. "Based" does not imply that the story has the exact script or plot. This is not a production of "Hamlet," it is a story following the general skeleton of Hamlet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.171.35.40 (talk) 04:56, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

P.S.'s

Lion King 3

For some reason in the UK this was released as "The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata", yet this isn't mentioned at all in the article. I think it should be mentioned pretty early on. If you don't believe me, here's the evidence http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lion-King-3-Hakuna-Matata/dp/B000163X1G/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1196349856&sr=8-1 Jamandell (d69) (talk) 15:30, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Strange errors

With one of the last edits, some errors in grammar occured. E.g. "Teenage Simba from the snail slurping contest As an adult, Simba re-encounters his childhood friend Nala, and Timon and Pumbaa try everything to stop Simba from falling in love with her.". Please repair this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.84.69.20 (talk) 00:02, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

The Lion King 1½ Intermission

The Lion King 1½ has very rare intermission, but Timon & Pumbaa has 10-minutes intermission, followed by the original Lion King film. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.53.223.162 (talk) 19:26, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Untitled

This article makes reference to the Lion King being based on Hamlet and Lion King 1 1/2 being based on Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are dead. This is misleading. The reviews cited indicate that LK 1 1/2 is related to LK in the same way that R&G is related to Hamlet. It's an important didtinction, because the LK - Hamlet link is disputed, and the Lion King 1 1/2 is in no way similar to Ros & Guil. "[S]eemed to be based", and "might have been inspired by" are weasel words. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Z.t.hudson (talkcontribs) 08:25, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

The Original Lion King Film

Followed by The Lion King 1 1/2 right before the original Lion King film, there is only two Disney animated films you can remember:

  • The Emperor's New Groove (2000) - Hercules (1997)
  • The Lion King 1 1/2 (2004) - The Lion King (1994)

Note: They're the prequels. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.51.84.128 (talk) 03:43, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

It is unclear what specific change you are proposing. Please clarify. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 07:05, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

"Cameos"

Based on space allocated to it, a list of characters shown in silhouette at the end of the film is more important to general readers than any other aspect of this film, other than the plot, to which it is a close second. Production, box office, critical reaction, soundtrack, awards, etc. are, it would seem, trivial when compared to a list of some Wikipedia editors playing "Name That Shadow" (the list is, of course, unsourced).

Additionally, a shadow of a fictional character is now a "small part played by a distinguished actor".

I understand the Disney fans on this site want to include everything. Wikipedia, however, is written for a general audience. This list is a minor piece of the film, taken from the primary source. There is little difference between including this list and including a list of buildings making "cameos" in The Avengers. - SummerPhDv2.0 00:56, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Cameos section

This was sort of a sudden change to the page, so I feel it's only appropriate to mention and elaborate on it in the talk page, but I decided that we should completely remove the "cameos" section in the article. Ultimately, I think that SummerPhDv2.0 (talk · contribs) was right- this section was honestly pretty petty and unnecessary by Wikipedia's standards. Mentioning every single Disney character that appears at the end of the film is completely unnecessary and doesn't need to be in a Wikipedia article of all places- after all, this is Wikipedia, not The Disney Wiki!

Aside from this, however, there's another big reason that I decided to remove this section, and that is because of the constant, rather irritating vandalism and petty editing it had done on it. Yes, this section had it pretty bad in terms of vandalism- tons of unnecessary edits changing things, and a ridiculous amount of false and made-up information being added to it by IP address editors. Ultimately, I think having the section didn't really actually help or add to the article in any meaningful way- I honestly think it was just an edition by a big Disney fan who wanted to see it there for the sake of seeing it it in the article, and if anything, it just sort of hurt the article more than it helped it!

So yeah, I've decided to remove the section completely- I highly doubt that'll ultimately be a very controversial decision, with the exception of those IP address editors who will probably try to re-add the section but it'll end up being really awful because they have no idea how either Wiki-formatting or basic English grammar works, resulting in the edit's inevitable revertion. I just thought I should probably mention this after making the edit as, like I said, it was a pretty sudden edit all things considered. Cheers! TheDisneyGamer (talk) 01:56, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

Cameos section

I really want people to discuss this- I don't think there should be a cameos section as I don't think it's necessary, but it keeps being continually added and I think people have to come up with a consensus instead of me just edit warring with all of these IP addresses. What are other people's opinions on this? Anybody?? Hello?!? TheDisneyGamer (talk) 16:27, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

The Lion King 1½ is not a movie!

This is just one big misunderstanding and complete failure!Temuera (talk) 18:02, 29 January 2018 (UTC)Temuera

Run time

There's been an editing dispute over how long the movie is. AllMovie, the current reference, says 90 minutes, but other sources, like IMDB, BCDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and Amazon, say 76 or 77 minutes. On Disney+, it's 81 minutes. So, what should it be here? clpo13(talk) 21:55, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Before I saw now that a discussion thread was opened, I went ahead and changed it to 81 minutes with Disney Plus as the source (since that's coming from an official source). I don't think AllMovies is correct, and the other options aren't from authoritative sources. Not sure if there are examples of Disney Plus being wrong? SpencerT•C 22:03, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
Is this a country-specific thing? https://www.disneyplus.com/de-de/movies/the-lion-king-1-1-2/2DCxbUBkW3dc/ says "1 hour and 16 minutes" on my screen. I am automatically redirected there from https://www.disneyplus.com/movies/the-lion-king-1-1-2/2DCxbUBkW3dc . ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:04, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
This is totally original research, but on Disney+ in the US, the actual movie, plus the original credits, ends at around 1 hour and 16 minutes. The remaining five minutes consist solely of voice credits for other languages available in Disney+. clpo13(talk) 22:10, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
The German Disney Plus source for 76 minutes sounds good to me, gives us an authoritative source for 76 min. Seems good enough. SpencerT•C 22:14, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
Ah, voice credits, thanks. That explains the difference. Although it's strange that the German version apparently isn't affected. Whatever. If it's 76 + language-specific additions, I'm all for 76. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:18, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
