Startup funding edit
Can someone who has access to the Globe and Mail confirm what it says about The Kyiv's startup funding. The CPJ says it received an emergency grant from the European Endowment for Democracy but does not mention Canada. I can't see why Canada would be providing funding through the EED. Is it possible that the Kyiv received funding from both the Canadian government and the EED? Burrobert (talk) 09:32, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Burrobert: This isn’t behind a paywall for me. Relevant text reads:
The Canadian government has waded into that fight, offering more than $200,000 to support the upstart Kyiv Independent.
Ashley Mulroney, the director of the Ukraine Development Program at the Canadian embassy in Kyiv, said the promised grant, which will be distributed via the European Endowment for Democracy, was “part of broader Canadian support for free media and democratization in Ukraine.”
- I guess this is the same money spoken about in CPJ though I have no idea why the Canadian gov chose this conduit for the funds. Vladimir.copic (talk) 11:53, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for that @Vladimir.copic:. I find all Globe and Mail articles require a subscription for some reason. Yes it is odd that Canada would use the EED, but it seems we have summarised the funding correctly. Burrobert (talk) 12:31, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
