company restructured

edit

Motown Records has been moved from Universal Motown Republic Group to Island Def Jam. The company is now called Island Def Jam Motown Music Group, which is what the pages title should be changed to.

This article mentions the change, executive appointment etc: http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/record-labels/ethiopia-habtemariam-named-senior-vice-president-1005312132.story — Preceding unsigned comment added by MusicGeek101 (talkcontribs) 04:19, 11 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Here is another article related to the company's restructuring where it states "Island Def Jam Motown":

Island Def Jam Motown

edit

Several articles have recently said "Island Def Jam Motown" rather than "Island Def Jam". How do we all feel about potentially changing this articles title? I think that the best sign of the change would be for Island def Jam's website to change its info b/c that would a clear indicator of the change. However UMG company press releases refer to the company as "Island Def Jam Motown". --MusicGeek101 (talk) 03:56, 19 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think maybe we should change this back to Island Def Jam. There have been no mention recently of this being island def jam motown. Thoughts? --MusicGeek101 (talk) 17:29, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

As of January 2012, there appears to have been no such rebranding of the group. While earlier articles- including a press release by UMG- made references to an Island Def Jam Motown Group, such usage was subsequently dropped. However concrete plans to relaunch Motown under IDJ have been announced with the hiring of a new VP (Ethiopia Habtemariam). My guess is that the Motown label will receive similar treatment as the revived Mercury label, which is not included in the group's moniker in any way. Another possibility is the relaunching of Motown as a 'standalone' label, while effectively being a 100% IDJ operation.
The odds of rebranding to Island Def Jam Motown appear very slim, and with the lack of updated information a half year later, the page should be moved back to its original title. Imperatore (talk) 21:12, 11 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. I support changing it back. --MusicGeek101 (talk) 21:33, 11 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Requested move

edit
The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: page moved. Strong consensus to move. I would also make the point that in terms of article naming policy, the undiscussed move that this move reverses was completely unjustified in the first place, and that the discussion below similarly ignores this policy. See WP:official names for an informal introduction. Andrewa (talk) 23:47, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I fully agree with having this page moved back to Island Def Jam Music Group. The label's website has not changed, so that proves what its name really is. --MusicGeek101 (talk) 16:38, 12 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fair use images

edit

The previous move also invalidated the fair use rationale at File:Idjmg.png. I went to fix it in the light of the move above, and there was nothing to fix, it still pointed to the old name which I had restored.

Be bold by all means, but please take note of these points. Article names should comply to WP:AT, and it doesn't say what some think it should. Changes of article title (moves) require some cleaning up. Andrewa (talk) 23:55, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Real name

edit

Shouldn't the official name of the group be Island Def Jam, as the official site always stated? --Zack Tartufo (talk) 17:41, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Forget it. --Zack Tartufo (talk) 17:45, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
