Fair use rationale for Image:Hutchinsbadge.jpg

edit

Image:Hutchinsbadge.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

School Colours

edit

It is quite frustrating that someone continues to change the school colours from pink to magenta. I myself am an old scholar, and when I attended, the colour was pink. It seems to me that the management group of the school has become embarrased and replaced it with magenta. This is a ridiculous idea. It is my opinion that the colours should go back to the good old pink, black and gold. No good can come from denying the past so that shallow people do not giggle at you. I am therefore going to change the colours back, and respectfully ask that they remain that way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prof. Nolan (talkcontribs) 06:28, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia operates on consensus, and verifiability, not truth is the standard for inclusion. If the article states that the school's color is Magenta, repeatedly changing it to Pink against or without consensus can be construed as edit warring, and insisting that the article use your preferred version to the exclusion of all others can be seen as a claim to ownership of the article, which is not how Wikipedia works. If you have reliable sources that state that the school's color is, currently, Pink, then you should discuss here on the talk page your proposed change, providing your sources to back your argument that the article should say Pink, not Magenta. - The Bushranger One ping only 07:12, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
(and, as a note, if this shows the "true color" in question, that is absolutely magenta to my eye. - The Bushranger One ping only 07:19, 10 October 2011 (UTC))Reply
You're a flat out troll, "Prof." Nolan. The colour is Magenta, not Pink. For example, the school newsletter is, as it has been for quite some time, Magenta and Black. ˜danjel [ talk | contribs ] 08:33, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I was merely attempting to express my opinion, and being an old scholar, I think I know more about the school than someone who doesn't live in the same state. It is slightly offensive that you believe that your opinion is more important than mine, despite your lack of knowledge in this subject. I can assure you, I have read many more Hutchins newsletter than you, that alone makes me more knowledgable on the subject, let alone the years I spent at school there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prof. Nolan (talkcontribs) 03:37, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

The remarkable thing about Wikipedia is that everyone's contributions are valid, regardless of their experience, as long as they are reliably sourced. And personal recollections are original research and thus forbidden from being included in articles. - The Bushranger One ping only 04:14, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
