With an exception of John Whaite, Nadiya Hussain, Candice Brown, and maybe David Atherton (baker) (?), I'm unsure whether articles about other winners, like "Frances Quinn", "Sophie Faldo", "Rahul Mandal", and "Peter Sawkins", have any valuable information. I may stand corrected about the info, but that's not only my concern. The articles about them are kinda small and would not likely expand in the future. How about this: merge these articles into the new article "List of The Great British Bake Off winners"? If not, what about merging/redirecting them to individual series? --George Ho (talk) 17:57, 4 February 2021 (UTC); edited, 02:26, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

This sounds like a good suggestion. A list with all the winners could probably contain the content which has secondary sources, and then could be a redirect target for the four you suggest. — Bilorv (talk) 17:32, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm OK with leaving all the articles active, but if the consensus is to move, I'd merge into the winners list article. My inclination would be to redirect the article on Candice Brown, which isn't developing and leave Rahul Mandal's active, as he's begun making TV appearances and just won a new competition. He may also gain notability as a scientist. The article may just need some updating. ----Dr.Margi 18:41, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
On second thought, I guess "Candice Brown" article either needs expanding or merger into proposed list article. --George Ho (talk) 02:26, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
  • I support merging these to a list.--Smerus (talk) 19:44, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
Is there a reason you keep putting the winner's names in quotes? In general I think having fewer articles about BLPs is wise and so I would be in favor of a majority of these winners (and perhaps some other semi-notable contestants like Ruby Tandoh) being covered in a group page which will attract more eyes and thus be harder to vandalize or otherwise run into BLP issues. This wouldn't prevent clearly notable people like Hussain from having her own article. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 03:35, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Support the list. I imagine the layout would look similar to a soap character list (random example) with person infoboxes? I can picture that working well. – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 01:16, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Commemt It could be argued that being a winner in one of the biggest shows in UK by itself can be considered notable, although a few of these articles might not develop beyond what is already given there. I'm essentially on the fence, but I will just note that whatever action that is taken should also take into consideration non-winners like Glenn Cosby, Ali Imdad, Ruby Tandoh, Martha Collison, James Morton, Kim-Joy, Andrew Smyth, Tamal Ray, otherwise you will have an unsatisfactory situation where less notable non-winners have their own articles while the more notable winners don't. Hzh (talk) 14:22, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
How about List of The Great British Bake Off finalists instead? I could alternatively go for List of The Great British Bake Off contestants, where I would separate finalists from eliminated contestants. However, I thought the list would be too long, and I'm unsure how much suitable info about less notable eliminated contestants I can put in. George Ho (talk) 01:44, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
If it is a simple list of contestants, it would look something like this - List of American Idol finalists. OK-ish, but there would not be much space for any details. The list of finalists for Bake Off would be shorter (only 3 per series), so you can add more details there. I have no objection to a list of Bake Of finalists - (Kim-Joy, Ruby Tandoh, and Andrew Smyth can certainly be merged there). You can start the article and give notice in the individuals' article of any proposed merge. I'm thinking that some of the non-finalists could be simply selectively merged or redirected to the post-show career section of their respective series, for example Glenn Cosby, Ali Imdad and Martha Collison, adding that section if it is not there already. Whether someone warrants an article may depend on whether there is continual coverage of the person after they left the show per WP:SUSTAINED, on that criterion, you can say that perhaps a few of them (and many of the winners) may qualify for their own articles. Discussion about Candice Brown article

I started the merger proposal of Candice Brown at "Talk:List of The Great British Bake Off finalists#Redirect Candice Brown?" --George Ho (talk) 20:33, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Definitely. She never materialized as much of a celeb, and has faded away. ----Dr.Margi 20:39, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Season-specific images

The series hasn't yet been released on Region-2 PAL DVD. Instead, British residents have received digital releases of the series via Amazon UK, Apple TV (UK) store, Microsoft UK, and other UK websites. Are images from Amazon Prime Video, like series 4 card, okay to use? If such card doesn't exist, what about photos of season-specific cast, including bakers? --George Ho (talk) 05:36, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

If you want to use the same image for multiple series/seasons, then perhaps no. I remember some people no liking it and started removing the non-free images, arguing that such use violates the minimal use criterion. If you want to use publicity images of the bakers as a group, I think that should be fine, but not them individually (too many non-free images in a single page always get people annoyed). I have seen publicity material in many individual seasons' infobox and they have not been challenged, so I would assume they are OK when only one is used in the infobox. Hzh (talk) 08:40, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
Sorry for the belated reply. To represent the first series, I'm unsure whether to use the title card that doesn't say "Series 1" in it (Apple, Microsoft, Amazon UK (?)) or one of group photos like the one in this Digital Spy article. George Ho (talk) 07:09, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
That would be from the first series, a similar image is used by the BBC, another similar one found in articles from 2010 - [1]. These images should be from same time period (note the same clothes worn), although whether the title was contemporary or added later I wouldn't know (I suspect later), but it is probably not important. Hzh (talk) 07:54, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
I decided to use group photos for series one, two, and three. I also decided to use a season premiere photo for series seven. I haven't considered using covers of series one and two yet, and series three has different covers but lacks one in Amazon Prime Video UK. Strangely, for series seven, Microsoft uses an image different from what Amazon UK and Apple UK have been using. For other series pages I uploaded digital covers from Amazon UK. George Ho (talk) 15:22, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
The series 7 one from Microsoft is wrong, since Matt Lucas did not join Bake Off until series 11. I have no opinion on series 1 and 2, but the one from series 3 is not good since you can't tell who anyone is in the infobox, may be better to use something else. Is there an image without the word "Tonight" for series 7? Hzh (talk) 16:09, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
The photo on series 3 is the only group photo showing all contestants. Other group photos from that season show remaining contestants as weeks went by, including the finals. To depict all contestants, I may have to create a screenshots. For the photo, to how many horizontal pixels do you want me to increase the size? Still searching for other group photos from series 7 lacking words.... --George Ho (talk) 20:22, 24 October 2021 (UTC); edited, 20:41, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
The premiere episode of the third series doesn't fully capture the cast and the bakers well. Even a cropped screenshot capturing just all bakers would be a little bit blurry for readers to see. George Ho (talk) 20:41, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
For series 7, here's the photo without words within it. I'm torn between the photo with words, which IMO helps readers even more how the series was promoted, and the photo without them, which may need file description to identify who's in it. I don't know why you wouldn't like the "Tonight" image as much as a wordless image. George Ho (talk) 21:06, 24 October 2021 (UTC); edited, 21:25, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
I think it is more appropriate to have only the title of the show displayed prominently to represent the entire series, the word "tonight" would imply that main image applies only to one night, and it would avoid confusion. But, if you can't find a better one, then so be it. I see another similar one - [2] (with cake but minus Mel & Sue), but you might prefer the one with words. For series 3, you would need to expand it quite a bit to see the people properly, it would not be appropriate to do it like that in the infobox. The advantage of having a group photo is to see the bakers, but here they are too small to see properly, so it defeats its purpose (and you can't upload a higher quality non-free image, because it will get reduced eventually). Perhaps this one might be better - [3]. Hzh (talk) 21:59, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
You can list the series 3 promo photo at FFD if willing. I still have faith in the photo, especially when readers can tap/click on the photo to see it larger more clearly. For series identification, unlike iTunes, Microsoft allows me to right-click the image. Somehow, the image is distributed to iTunes and Microsoft because the Amazon release still doesn't have a cover, yet it still doesn't adequately identify the series in context. It merely identifies the then-main cast and the series (especially with the series title) but doesn't specify which release. George Ho (talk) 23:11, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

I am now using the "Tonight" image and the wordless cast image on The Great British Bake Off (series 7). If neither satisfies you, then what about the "Bake Off Is Back!" one? George Ho (talk) 02:15, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

@Hzh: I'm leaning toward the "Tonight" image by default, but I'll keep the wordless cast image if you wanna go for that one. Or how about the "Bake Off Is Back!" photo? George Ho (talk) 03:33, 7 November 2021 (UTC); updated, 05:19, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

You should not be having two similar non-free images of contestants. The "Bake Off Is Back!" one with the date on it is worse I think. Hzh (talk) 08:57, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
I know they're similar essentially, so I would like to know which one you lean towards. George Ho (talk) 09:09, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

Well, I figured you wouldn't like "Tonight" photo anyways, so I went with the cropped cast image instead. I thought about using a cast image for series 4 and others (to replace the cover arts), but I guess most of the British cover arts are more fitting enough? Colours for "Results summary" sections

I thought about using unified templates {{won}}, {{Runner-up}}, {{Eliminated}}, {{coltit}} and others in order to improve source readability of season pages. Thoughts? George Ho (talk) 20:05, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Not sure what you intend to do, but do give an example first so we can see what it looks like first. Some TV season page I've seen can look spectacularly hideous. Hzh (talk) 00:51, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
