Talk:The Garden of Eden (novel)

reification edit

I removed "—one deeply dependent on exterior reification-" from the article, since it is meaningless. I am well educated and well read and I do not understand what this means. It links to a disambiguation page on which there are several links to articles that seem to me to work as the definition, but I do not know which one the author of this phrase meant. If you know or are the author, please link reification to the particular article, and not to the disambiguation page. Thanks, Nick Beeson (talk) 22:29, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Garden of EdenThe Garden of Eden (novel) – Obviously Garden of Eden is properly titled per WP:THE, but we don't expect readers to be familiar with all our naming conventions. I suspect that those typing in "The Garden of Eden" are looking for the biblical place rather than a novel. Do you? --BDD (talk) 20:24, 28 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Support, clearly the likely target, with or without "the", is the biblical location. bd2412 T 02:46, 29 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Support: Regardless of whether the biblical setting is primary for this title or not, I suspect that the novel cannot claim to be primary. —BarrelProof (talk) 06:16, 29 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Support The Garden of Eden (novel). I'd oppose dropping The from the title because it's part of the title. Can't imagine The Sun Also Rises as Sun Also Rises (which is, apparently, a redirect). Victoria (talk) 18:54, 30 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I didn't mean to imply that this article was wrongly titled per THE. --BDD (talk) 21:44, 30 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Support as per nom. Yep, we only would use "the" as a differentiator between similarly notable entities (see The CW but CW). For the novel, the word "the" doesn't come close to pushing it over the edge of the Garden of Eden even with the push it gets from WP:THE. I know you know this, BDD, but I'm just saying it so someone reading this later down the line isn't confused. Hi, future person! 2013 is really cool, but hopefully your year is even cooler!
