This has to be one of the most underestimated TV series EVER.
First of all about animation and some true talents of it in ACTUAL PEOPLE Daws Butler and Don Messick... plus the truly gifted cracker jack charter actor Jack Gilford. Not to mention the completely unnoticed debut of Jim Carry.
It really was a potentially stellar show NBC never even began to promoted (it's just cartoons what studios have always said) and few noticed unfortunately given the lead into Cheers as I recall not follow, and even it was just gathering mainstream steam.... but what a treat of actually see fading until then unseen past animation history (voice Daws Butler shortly before his death and not old but very talented Messek) and things to come (in the case of debutant Carry who as even the show portrays wandered off the bus into Hollywood starring roll he really had) The Cheers following Night Court had a much better chance but also slow to get up to steam but had that didn't change channel lead... Duck Factory never had the chance of.
And while a failure for all others historically involved, in the case of Cary at least evidently the Wayan Bros and (just thinking of lauching)FOX were watching him 2 or 3 years later ended up the only white guy on In Living Color... or Jim Carry might still be a no one, at least he caught the wave though show failed and the veterans lost their last well deserved gasp...Daws and Jack died not long after, and again odd the series started with the death of the Duck factory studio owner. Again that Carry just wandered into as this as the pilot script was written ` and got him so notice despite the failure.... a generational hand over and look how much CGI animation (MASK) and and live (psych) animated character roles been in since so adapted for?
I would love to hear him at length comment on that connection, and actually in short clips have heard him give credit to the LUCK of DUCK Factory.
And again for an first time actor luck of starring roll you are talented and just did what we already wrote flawlessly and with VETERANS of the absurd (Cartoons are and again actual people involved) to work with... what a glorious place to start.
