Stage

edit

Does anyone know what kind of main video screen they were using? When we first sat down (far in the back), I swore the bottle and radio were giant props, until the hand changed the station! I've never seen a screen that large with resolution that good before. Eric Soyke

Concert Pictures

edit

Hi. If any more concert pictures are needed for this page I have high res, original pictures from the 26th of June Stavanger concert. I have a total of 11 pictures, some of them are used here: http://www.pinkfloydz.com/roger2006/index26june.htm If any pictures are needed for this article, drop me a note on my talkpage and I will be happy to upload some for any editor that might need them. Ah well, I learned how to use commons, so now they are all here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Roger_Waters 213.167.126.215 15:34, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Completed

edit

Do we really need the word COMPLETED before each of the completed dates? I would of thought it was pretty obvious that the gig had happened by the date... (obv. have a note if the show was postponed/cancelled, etc) Lugnuts 18:57, 8 Aug 2006

Mah, maybe not.--Doktor Who 19:24, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Certainly not. The gigs will all be completed pretty soon, so it's not very encyclopedic. BotleySmith 23:38, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Miming

edit

From edit summary 69021242:

"The entire "miming" section was completely unfounded, and frankly, full of hearsay and unsubstantiated claims".

Spoken like someone who doesn't want to believe what they're hearing. Admittedly, the paragraph I put in was heavily based on original research. That said, the debate (which seems to be the most common theme of all the show reviews I've read) is over how much Roger mimes during this tour, not whether he does or not. We should at least try to acknowledge the fact that Roger mimed during the Rio performance (the TV broadcast feed did not match the audience recordings), and has done so on previous tours. For proof of this last claim, see the Stachel interview I linked to:

BD: Is it true that Roger (rather sensibly) used a handful of pre-recorded vocal segments to save his voice from too much strain? When I met him at Wembley his voice was struggling and he was sucking lozenges. I'd much rather artists used the odd pre-recorded segment (selectively) rather than have to cancel shows...
NS:Yes, and I agree.

This is obviously a touchy subject, but that's no reason to remove all acknowledgement of it from this encyclopedia. BotleySmith 22:00, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

And are you going to do the same for every article dealing with a rock singer or for Waters only? Dr. Who 22:12, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, if the leitmotif in every review of that rock singer's concerts is a debate on what parts were mimed, then I'd say it warrants inclusion. BotleySmith 22:33, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
If other Wikipedians say so..., but I see none here. I do not think it is encyclopedic, though it is worth to be included in a gossip magazine. Brain-damage website is a fan site, and its information is not always regarded as encyclopedic. --Dr. Who 22:50, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
There is none else here at Wikipedia, at least not now.Dr. Who 22:54, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I, as a Roger Waters fan, have no problems admitting he might have mimed during have a cigar on the Stavanger concert. However, the section was written in a very gossiplike way. If the section was written in a way that dosnt accuse of miming, but rather note that miming occored on some songs on some of the concerts it would be ok in my opinion. Lines like the ones saying "It may have been perfected to perfection" though are totally unfounded. If he is mining you can both see and hear the difference. Clq 23:03, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I saw Roger in Shanghai and clearly what he sings does not come through to the speakers. Several times he was out of sync and at one stage in the concert, when he was going to say something, then it turned out that his microphone was not on.

This is not a question of a sore throat. The show is designed and produced with his voice on tape.

With this in mind, I think the ticket buyers should be warned of this fact before forking out $100 or $200 for a seat. The miming section should remain in the main article.

Having been at the Stavanger concert, at least there he was NOT miming the whole show. I have seen audience recordings around on the net, and at least one some songs there are parts where I hear a clear difference in the vocals from what I can remember hearing. So the statement that the whole show is "designed and produced with his voice on tape" is false. It is indeed designed and produced, perhaps more than some would desire. Clq 15:40, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Since the 1980s Roger has mimed certain vocal parts at his shows. "Every Strangers Eyes" is an example - go find a YouTube audience bootleg and you'll find the bridge vocal is the vocal on Pros and Cons of Hitckhiking album. It's like this on his "In The Flesh" live album, too. And that's okay. His voice was abused and destroyed and he saves it by only doing things like that in the studio. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.212.221.225 (talk) 02:28, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The "backing tracks" section has not been improved by the addition of further original research, which clouds the issue with more hearsay and unfounded claims. If this discussion warrants inclusion (which I believe it does), we must find more factual sources to back it up. BotleySmith (talk) 19:02, 20 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Vera at Shoreline

edit

Vera was not omitted from the October 10th show at Shoreline. I was at this show, and I distinctly remember the song just after Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2 and before Bring the Boys Back Home. I have changed it back until somebody provides a link.

Unconfirmed Dates

edit

I really don't feel as if putting dates which are unconfirmed (even if they are strong rumours) is worth it. In theory, any date/locale could be put there and be "unconfirmed" I'm going to remove them, if anyone feels like they should be there, say so. Evilive

Pig graffiti should stay at Pink Floyd pigs

edit

I propose that all the "graffiti" information be collected at the Pink Floyd pigs article, rather than copied both places - it would make this article much cleaner if the graffiti section here was reduced to a simple introduction and a link to the more in-depth article. Something like:

"Pink Floyd's iconic pig has been used extensively during the Dark Side of the Moon tour, appearing at almost every venue. During the tour, the pig has often carried messages critical of the American government, and in support of repressed Latin American populations, including indictments of discrimination and calls for the further prosecution of former dictators. A complete list of the pigs and messages featured at each show can be found at Pink Floyd pigs."

After all, this article is about the tour as a whole, and if we already have an entire article focused on the pigs, we don't need a "trivia" section here about them which copies all the information from the other article. PaladinWhite 12:48, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

After recieving no response here, I have removed the triva section, and added a link under "See also." Information was moved to Pink Floyd pigs.

Is a citation REALLY needed?

edit

I noticed that the infobox, at present, has:

Legs — at least 6 [citation needed]
Shows — at least 108 [citation needed]

The legs are defined in the article and the show list is recent. Sure, "at least" indicates the number is not final and subject to a change, but is this not like demanding a citation for the number of States in the USA on the same page as a list of them? --74.12.86.174 22:58, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nick Mason played at the Holmdel, New Jersey, PNC Bank Arts Center, on September 6, 2006

edit

At this show, which was Roger Waters birthday, an inflated pig was released and it floated off - almost perfectly - toward an almost Full Moon. The next day, September 7, 2006, was the actual Full Moon.
