Harry Potter edit

Can we formalise these movies to resemble the 'Harry Potter' film series? That would standardise things nicely. If possible?

Awards edit

What are the Wings TEC Critics Awards? Do they really exist? I couldn't find them with a quick google search. And shouldn't they, like all the other awards, be mentioned on the page for the specific movie rather than the series?Eluchil404 03:04, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I came to the discussion page wondering the same thing myself. I run a Narnia fan site and have heard nothing of the sort myself. Can anyone shed any light on this? In the meantime, I've moved it to the page about the film, and reformatted it so that it fits. --LuminousSpecter 04:22, 31 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Clarifying the Differences Between the Film and Book Series' Production Orders edit

204.126.2.5 04:16, 23 October 2007 (UTC) The section on "Other Films" was rewritten to better clarify why there is a disparity between the order of the currently published editions and the order in which the films are being produced. It was also revised to avoid language that seemed somewhat patronizing ("some *young* fans are confused"--in reality, many adult readers are also confused). 138.237.162.14 02:43, 3 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Stub? edit

I just noticed the stub template on this page. IMO, the article covers the topic fully, so I will remove the stub template unless someone objects. Eluchil404 20:31, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Since no one mentioned any reasons to keep the stub listing, I have deleted it. Eluchil404 16:54, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Correct order or buisiness? edit

Should it also be said that many people read Narnia and didn't read Nephew, thus making more movie buisiness for the studio?

Only if we can find a source for it. It's logical but WP:NOR and my impression is that LWW was really a personal/emotional choice for the produces and director rather than a cold blooded marketing decision. Eluchil404 04:51, 29 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
LWW was the first written, and first published. MN came much later. It wasn't until the 1980s that they reorder the books chronologically. It's pretty much common knowledge for Narnia fans and anyone older then 40. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jrfoldes (talkcontribs) 03:36, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Super Shortened? edit

This article looks virtually destroyed. If I remember correctly, it looks half the length it used to be. (E.g. There's no plot, fewer pictures, etc.) Colonel Marksman 15:07, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

2008????? edit

I thought Prince Caspian was supposed to be released in 2007! Why this change? Scorpionman 20:22, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

The nearly impossible production scheduale that a Dec 2007 release would hae required? I don't know more than what I've seen in the news reports but 23 months is not very long to go from greenlight to release espeically if major characters have to be photo-realistically animated (Aslan, Reepicheep, Truffelhunter). Lord of the Rings for Kids edit

I look at this movie as the Lord of the Rings for kids. This might be the reason why it was not nominated for Best Picture. Why is it that kids movies, despite their overall quality, cannot be nominated for Best Picture?

Caspian Trilogy edit

In regards to the "trilogy of Caspian" (Other Films, P1), if I remember correctly, wasn't Caspian only a youth in "Caspian" and "Voyage"? In fact, I believe he dies as an old man during "Chair". Therefore, they wouldn't need to worry about the actor playing Caspian to remain young. --6xB 07:08, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Caspian dies as an old man, but in the book there's a following scene in which he's young again. The movie could fudge that, I suppose. However, the kid playing Eustace shouldn't be much older in The Silver Chair than in Voyage.
—wwoods 16:09, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I remembered the bit about Eustace (I think "Chair" only takes place a few months after "Voyage", if I remember correctly). And now that you mention it, I do remember when they go to Aslan's country about how they said that Caspian looked younger, though I didn't think he'd be a youth again.
But yeah, they'd want to keep the same actor for Eustace for "Voyage", "Chair", and "Battle" as well. --6xB 18:55, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing: everyone keeps talking about the "Caspian trilogy and how they need to film those in succession because of actor continuity, but does no-one realize that that if they want to maintain continuity as far as Eustace and Jill go they need to film The Last Battle following The Silver Chair? Those two are still kids in TLB. Then after that they can film The Magician's Nephew and The Horse and His Boy whenever they want as there are no continuity issues (except I guess with the White Witch in MN).

Actually wouldn't be surprised if at least one of those two never gets filmed, which would be unfortunate.

--NetherlandishYankee 02:15, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good point. Eustace would have to be relatively the same age (give or take about a year) for VDT, SC, and LB; Jill would have to be the same for SC and LB; Caspian for PC, VDT, and the end of SC; Jadis for LWW and MN; Peter and Susan for LWW and PC; Edmund and Lucy for LWW, PC, and VDT; older Susan for LWW and HHB; older Peter, Edmund, and Lucy for LWW, HHB, and LB; and Prof. Kirke for LWW and LB. That's a lot of continuity to keep track of. --6xB 03:20, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't have the books handy, but IIRC The Last Battle is set several years of Earth-time after Silver Chair, so they've got some leeway there. (For instance, Susan is late-adolescent in LB.)
Jadis in Magician's Nephew is a thousand years younger than in LWW, and minus the effects of the stolen apple, so there's really no problem there. As long as Jim Broadbent is alive, make-up can match his appearance in TCoN:LWW. Even if he's not available, Prof. Kirke has only a cameo in LB; if Prof. Dumbledore can be recast, so can Kirke.
Horse and His Boy is a bit of a challenge. Presumably the actors who played the adult Pevensies in TCoN:LWW will get first crack at auditioning for their roles in TCoN:HHB. Or maybe by then the younger actors could do it — Anna Popplewell is old enough that Rabadash's desire to marry her won't seem icky. But as long as the actors cast don't appear glaringly different, there shouldn't be a problem.
—wwoods 07:55, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Shouldn't be a problem?" I think you're forgetting one really big problem. That is the way that Calormen and Calormenes are portrayed in the book. Seems to me that they'd have to devise a way around portraying the "dark skinned" Calormenes as the bad guys and the "white skinned" Narnians as the good guys on the big screen, or forget it. HHB is a good story in and of itself but the strong racial overtones can't be ignored, especially at the box office. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.233.247.5 (talk) 03:19, 14 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Taking into account how the characters look, Jadis probably wouldn't look a whole lot younger in MN than she did in LWW (perhaps maybe 5 or 10 years to Earth Humans). Still, by then, I do agree that they would have to cast a new actress to play the part.
Assuming they film the rest of the movies two at a time, the order would most likely be PC and VDT, SC and HHB, and MN and LB. So, assuming HHB comes out in maybe about 2014, the actors who played the original Pevensies could still potentially play the same characters, as you said. (I'm not entirely sure about Georgie Henley though, as she would only be around 19 at that time, which may or may not be old enough for the character.)
And even though Digory only appeared in two scenes in LWW, I still think it would be awkward to have another actor play him. Mr. Broadbent should maintain his place in Narnia. But, if they absolutely had to change it, then I wouldn't he against casting another actor for the part, but preferrably if he retained a few physical characteristics from both younger and older Digory.

Puzzled edit

The article states, "Judging by the spacing between Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and the stated desire to release the 'Caspian trilogy' films a year apart, the movie [The Silver Chair] will probably be released in 2012 or 2013." But we know that Prince Caspain is due for release in June 2008, Voyage in May 2010. So if Silver Chair is due in 2012 (at the earliest), that's two years apart (again), not one. This "stated desire" to release them one year apart must therefore have been abandoned by now as unrealistic - right? 86.133.54.73 (talk) 23:01, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Removing unverified information regarding Disney renegotiation edit

I have done due diligence, checking Google, news.google, and other sources. Originator IP was assigned to a pool in Milwaukee, and I checked four different papers there, as well as Walden media staff/locations who might have leaked this. As it's not in the news, not cited, and represents something that could be used to manipulate financial markets, I believe this to be fall under the "exceptional claim." Removing the reference and suggesting if it is verifiable, it must be cited. Redcard (talk) 05:20, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Redundancy edit

Removed some redundant text in Additional Films section. Since Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader was its own section and discussed this already, removed "The film adaptation of the third book, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader distributed by 20th Century Fox, has been confirmed; the next likely film." from the section. The Silver Chair edit

Ok so someone thinks that "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair" should be merged into this thread. Seriously, why bother doing that? You are just going to end up moving out afterwards when the movie goes into production in a few months. This is just a waste of time, leave that page be. Jrfoldes (talk) 23:37, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • I have added a formal merge tag so perhaps we can have a full discussion. The reason for a merge is that is it not certain that the article will need to be recreated. If VotDT bombs it will almost certainly not be made (witness how much trouble VoDT had after Caspian disappointed at the box office). Even if it is green-lit many problems could stall or cancel production. The guideline on future films, WP:NFF says that films should not have their own articles until they have begun filming. As it stands, almost nothing in the separate article can be confirmed. Narnia Web is not a reliable soruce. It is an excellent candidate for a paragraph or two in the series article but should not have one of its own. Eluchil404 (talk) 04:23, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't think using PC v. VotDT is a fair comparison. PC did not "bomb" it still hit well over $100 million, and thus makes it a blockbuster. The reason for the delay in VotDT production was in fighting between Walden Media and Disney. Walden was very upfront about not having PC open in the summer as it would do better as a Christmas movie. Aslan being an allegory for Christ and what not. Disney did what they wanted and as a result prooved Walden Media right. As result of telling the mouse what to do and proving him wrong Disney dropped the franchise and thus production of VothDT had to be halted until a new distributor could be found. Jrfoldes (talk) 23:03, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • I say leave the page alone, the film is going to happen. VotDT is viewed as a "favorite" by many Narnia fans, it's going to do fine at the box office, and as a result SC will happen. Jrfoldes (talk) 23:05, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Merge per WP:NFF. If an movie hasn't started filming yet it shouldn't have their own article. Plain and simple. Jhenderson777 (talk) 20:30, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Merge - since there is very little info on the film, notability has not been established yet. Most of the content seems to be speculation and crystalball. --LoЯd ۞pεth 01:36, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Silver Chair has not been announced and there is no guarantee at the present time that it will even be made (considering Dawn Treader's opening was less than hoped for, it's actually looking more doubtful). Details of it should not be added to this article because it contravenes Wikipedia policy. Please see WP:CRYSTAL. 88.110.248.192 (talk) 05:53, 13 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Julia Pole?? Is there a reason why Jill Pole is referred to as Julia Pole? Fellow Narnia fans will agree that such an error is only slightly worse than a live beetle in your shoe! If no explanation or reason not to, I'll change it! surfingus (talk) 17:15, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Pevensie Children, Scrubb Children, Pole Children edit

Let us reach a consensus on what to call this section heading. For a time, it was "Pevensie and Scrubb children". Now it is back to the original "Pevensie children". When Silver Chair comes out, it will be even more inaccurate. Should it be something simple like "The children" or more descriptive like "Children of Earth" to differentiate them from Narnia's children such as Caspian? Plot redundant edit

The whole section summarizing the plots of the films is redundant with the individual articles about those films. I believe it should be removed. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 17:27, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Agree, or at the very least be trimmed down severely and merged in the #Films-subsections. Xeworlebi (talk) 18:15, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I would say to just remove the "Plot" section in its entirety. We can provide a synopsis of each film in the "Films" section. Erik (talk | contribs) 18:30, 20 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Magician's Nephew edit

I could not find a source to support speculation about Silver Chair's release date, so I removed mentions of it from the article. I did find a reference for Magician's Nephew, in Christianity Today; however, the other reference named "TVObit" does not appear to be a valid source, it appears to be a television news story, but does not mention a channel, publisher, distributor, writer, or anything to identify it uniquely. Help would be appreciated in either tracking it down or removing it altogether. Elizium23 (talk) 00:09, 2 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Infobox pic on Jan 5 2012 edit

Is a picture of the French DVD box set cover the best representation of the films for the English Wiki? I know that the ins and outs of the rules regarding pictures that are allowed on this Wiki are tortuous and Byzantine so this may be the only one we can have. I post this in the hope that those of you who are better versed in all those rules might be able to find a better pic for this article. MarnetteD | Talk 21:05, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Future films: Magician's Nephew and Silver Chair edit

It has been rumored that The Magician's Nephew and The Silver Chair are in development, but there is no reliable secondary source which has picked up this story. A NarniaFans.com article carried the rumor in September 2011, which is stale by now because Walden Media's option expired on future Narnia films; and IMDb has both films listed as "In Development": Magician (2014) Silver Chair (2015). IMDb is not a sufficiently reliable source for this. We need a news article, it would probably come in a trade publication such as Variety. So please do not add rumors to the Narnia articles until a news story is published. See WP:CRYSTAL and WP:NFF for more information. Thanks. Elizium23 (talk) 03:56, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Mythology added by the movie makers? I think not. edit

I've been reading The Magical Worlds of Narnia by David Colbert and there are many many references to all the source material that Lewis pulled from. Lewis became a Christian later in life and it was not the primary influence in his novels. He and Tolkien pulled lots of material from Norse and Greek mythology, Irish folklore, and many other sources, including Christianity. Somebody please either add a reference to show that the current text is true or delete it. Text is in paragraph two of the article: "While the films tried to follow the novels' traditional storyline and Christian themes, they also added deviations from the source material, including the Greek Mythology and Irish fairy tales."

Status of franchise, 2018 edit

It looks as if over the last few months there has been a bit of a slow-motion edit war about how this article should describe the future of the Silver Chair film: is it, as Zucat (talk · contribs) has it in an edit summary, "still most likely being made", or has it been superseded by the announcement of the Netflix deal? The reliable sources I have been able to find are of little help; Deadline and Entertainment Weekly both suggest that the Netflix deal means the previous plans for The Silver Chair are dead, but neither is very firm about it

Deadline says: "Following the MGC’s acquisition by eOne, it was announced in 2016 that Sony and eOne would finance and distribute [The Silver Chair]. Instead, Gordon and chief eOne strategy officer Peter Micelli felt there was a bigger opportunity in building a film-TV Narnia universe. They got The C.S. Lewis Company on board and took the package, accompanied by an elaborate vision presentation, to the marketplace, eventually landing at Netflix. (Sony is not involved in the project.)" The word "instead" suggests that the Silver Chair project, or at least the version of it that Sony was going to produce, is now dead; but it's far from clear.

Similarly, EW says: "A film version of the fourth book in the saga, The Silver Chair, was supposed to start filming this year under director Joe Johnston with Gordon producing, but it sounds like this deal is effectively overwriting that one." But "it sounds like" suggests that this is James Hibberd's interpretation of the press release, not a certain fact.

Finally, The Independent says: "Meanwhile, there's currently no word on whether the Joe Johnston-directed adaptation of The Silver Chair is still going ahead as previously planned."

I worded my edit the way I did in order to indicate to readers that it is the cited sources which are interpreting the Netflix announcement as meaning that the previous plans for The Silver Chair are now defunct — this is not our synthesis, but a summary of what other sources are saying. In the absence of firm news one way or the other, I think that's all we can do. Does that seem like a fair compromise to other editors? —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 03:41, 29 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think the information is worded fine. I am concerned about the sequencing though. Would it make more sense to remove the Silver Chair sub-title and list the Netflix news below the old Silver Chair information. This way the information contained in the Future section will be about the future of the entire franchise and not just one potential film as well as listing the information in chronological order. Currently the first sentence mentions the Silver Chair info is superseded by the Netflix news. At this point, a new reader isn't going to be familiar with the Silver Chair info unless they read the Future section out of order. Elnauron (talk) 14:30, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
