Guest speakers and the Bird

I noted the addition of "All cadets in the audience finish this sentence by calling out this name" and have heard elsewhere that all cadets now say "The Bird" in unison. Unfortunately, that takes away the humor of the traditional response--someone would get up to present the statue, usually saying something generic like "On behalf of the cadet wing, we'd like to present you with a token of our appreciation", and cadets would call out, fairly randomly, "Give him the Bird!", implying something less than dignified. - Tarfu92 12:31, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Question about a statement

I read the following statement and was a bit confused. The Air Force Academy falcon is the only performing mascot in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, performing at football games.... There are at least two other mascots I can think of off the top of my head - Cowboy Joe from the University of Wyoming and Ralphie the Buffalo from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I'm not sure what the basis is, but I know that the announcer always used to say that during the falconry performance at halftime of AF home football games (referring, of course, to the live falcon mascot, not "The Bird"). It's been a while since I've been to a falcon home game, so I don't know if they still say it. The USAFA Fact Sheet on the falcon mascot doesn't mention it at all. - Tarfu92 (talk) 15:03, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
