the biggest looser norway

in norway there was a norwegian version of the biggest looser. many of the american seasons have also been sent.(they were sent on a channel that in norwegian is called tv norge. that means tv norway in english.) some person should create a page for it. i dont remember enough of it myself. it was called slankekrigen.(in norway that name is also used for the american episodes i believe) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.208.108.222 (talk) 16:23, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Ajay, AJ or A.J.

Hmm. There seems to be a bit of a slow edit-war on this minor point. According to the Australian official site it is AJ. According to the end-credits it is apparently Ajay. User:210.49.237.17 mentions that she has written books under Ajay, but according to Amazon [1], these are actually under A.J. My best guess is that her initials are A.J., which she alternately writes AJ or Ajay. So neither are her real name, but the google test shows 12.000 to 30 in favour of AJ. Her website (http://www.healthybodyclub.com.au/) has her signature which reads "Amy Jay" or "Ami Jay". Peter (talk) 10:53, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Kim Lyons

Hey guys lets add to kim lyons She has big shoes to fill, so lets at least build a great wikipedia page for her.Mrsmart 01:39, 12 September 2006 (UTC) I disagree with forwarding Kim Lyons automatically to the biggest loser. Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels have their own site. Also, she is a IFFB professional fitness competitor and engaged to Gunter Schleircamp, who finished 4th last year in the Mr. Olympia contest. What do you guys think?Mrsmart 06:53, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Will she just be filling in for season 3, or is she the permanent replacement for Jillian. I ask because Jillian will be appearing with Bob on season 2 of the Australian version, which I believe was filmed after Kim Lyons season 3. - Matthew238 01:48, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
I did start a kym lyons article which has obviously been deleted since. Annoying that you go to the effort of writing up some articles and they just get removed. Peter 04:11, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Ausbloserlogo.jpg

Image:Ausbloserlogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Criticism

The criticism part is just... weird, to put it nicely. First, it's quite POV-filled. "While the basic premise for the show is great" starts it off. Who deems it great? Besides that! It's confusing with run-on sentences and unsourced information. I'm tempted to just delete it, but if someone can fix it, go ahead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Babylon pride (talkcontribs) 19:36, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

No muscle-building!?

From the Criticism section: "Contestants are asked to lose the highest percentage of body mass in order to win, rather than losing the most body fat. Because of this contestants aren't encouraged to perform any muscle building exercises as muscle is denser than fat, therefore with the same volume of each, muscle will weigh more. This means contestants would have the greatest chance of winning the series by starving themselves so as to lose both fat and muscle."

I watch the show a lot, and they certainly do muscle-building (resistance) exercises (weights, lunges, etc.). You need muscle to exercise efficiently and to keep your metabolism up (to burn calories), and the trainers know that. They don't try to bulk up, but they certainly do resistance exercises to keep their muscle tone. --Irrevenant [ talk ] 09:33, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

WHAT criticism section?

Apparently there was one, and it has been removed. It shouldn't have been. The weight loss techniques and goals on this show are more than a little controversial (virtually nobody in medicine thinks it's healthy to be losing 15 or twenty pounds in a week, for example.) And the "body-mass" versus "fat loss" argument is equally valid. They should be getting floated and graded on fat loss- shedding "pounds" is simply not healthy. Oh, yeah- there's also the fact that every time they do a "where are they now?" segment it turns out that the winners have gained back some weight. 216.194.21.170 (talk) 19:46, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Season 8

I have found a photo of the new season of the biggest loser. The way it looks, it WILL be another couples season. The Link is : http://www.popeater.com/television/article/biggest-loser-drug-scandal/507133?icid=n main|main|dl2|link2|http://www.popeater.com/television/article/biggest-loser-drug-scandal/507133. When you click on the before and after photos, continue to click on the arrow that switches the photo. a window should pop up, and the photo is in there. Please Comment.--JereMerr 18:32, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I saw the photo. It's not a couples set-up, I think individuals are just placed into duos when they arrived. The duos will probably be dissolved eventually into Blue vs. Black, then into singles. 173.88.94.212 (talk) 16:07, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Also,I may have figured out when they began filming. Season 7's finale was may 12, which was when amanda was chosen to be on the show. If on may 21, week one ended, then filming began on May 13, one day after the season finale of Season 7.--JereMerr 22:58, 23 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeremerr (talkcontribs)

According to the preview video for season 8, this season will be a couples, or at least a pairs season (link: http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser/video/clips/the-biggest-loser-preview/1142261/) does anyone agree with me, and can we please put this in the article? --JereMerr 16:04, 8 August 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeremerr (talkcontribs)

Also, On The Season 7 "After The Show" Section of the article, should it be appropriate to mention that daniel wright was cast to participate in the 8th season, since it is after season 7? --JereMerr 05:42, 14 August 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeremerr (talkcontribs)

It is mentioned that a girl named Shay weighed in at 476. It cites a Biggest Loser preview video on NBC, but the NBC video reveals nothing of this sort. How did this end up in the article? 173.88.94.212 (talk) 00:21, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Season 9

during the biggest loser season 8 finale, they showed a promo for season 9 which revealed some of the contestants, their teams, and in 2 instances, their starting weights. thest starting weights are the heaviest in the show's history, and even break the world record for heaviest contestants: Pink Team : Ashley & ? Orange Team: Cheryl & ? Brown? (I could not tell what color) Team: John (Starting Weight 484 LBS) And James (Starting Weight 485 Lbs) Can We Add This To The Official article, or be safe and wait for more info (i got this from the promo that aired during the season 8 Finale)------JereMerr 07:05, 9 December 2009 (UTC)--JereMerr 07:05, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Manipulation for impact?

Does anyone know if the producers peek at contestant weights ahead of time, perhaps in a pre-weigh-in where only they see the numbers, or their votes before entering the elimination room? They do a pretty uncanny job of ordering the proceedings for maximum suspense, though maybe shrewd guesses based on observation are sufficiently accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cryptognome (talkcontribs) 04:53, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

You remind me that once I noticed a picture captured from Season 9, in which the total amount of the weight loss of the group was shown but the amount of each of them wasn't. First, taking the machine into consideration, I don't think it is necessary to waste that long time to show the result of weight loss just for an "accurate result". I reckon it's just producer's trick to prolong the agony. --Peterxj108 (talk) 14:12, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

I'll have to find my source, but the weights are done ahead of time, though the contestants don't know the number, at "The Weigh-In" it isn't really a scale, as the weight has been determined ahead of time. But, at the weigh-in it is the first time the contestants see their weight. So, yes, it is arranged by the producers to produce dramatic effect. ---- 20:03, 25 December 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.74.171.238 (talk)

Location

It is not correct that the show is produced at Malibu Creek State Park. It is actually on King Gillette Ranch which is adjacent to Malibu Creek State Park. I live within a mile of it and have been to the ranch and seen the contestants there (on a Sunday when no production was happening). Dagurasum (talk) 07:00, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

So, what about prior seasons? Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:31, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't understand your question. The article states that "Recent seasons have been filmed at the Malibu Creek State Park." I am simply stating that that statement is incorrect. Dagurasum (talk) 05:16, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I am asking if you know about prior seasons. I am guessing from your response that you do not. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:37, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

What you are referring to when you say "prior seasons" is not clear. If you are referring to seasons prior to those that I know were filmed at King Gillette Ranch, and NOT at Malibu Creek State Park as the article states, then your guess is correct. You're welcome. Dagurasum (talk) 21:05, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Season 4 was taped in Camarillo on the campus of CSU Channel Islands. Beginning with Season 5, the show moved to the King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas. Segments of the show have been filmed throughout Malibu and Calabasas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.108.154.87 (talk) 17:00, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

It is clear from observation that some earlier seasons were filmed at the former Camarillo State Hospital, now CSUCI California State University, Channel Islands. -- 22:05, 25 December 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.74.171.238 (talk)

Addition to "Records" section

I'd like new rows in the "Records" section. M/F highest starting BMI. I believe this upcoming Season 11, Couples 4, will have a record Male "highest starting BMI." Michael may have the highest starting weight, but at 6'4" his weight is not as significant as contestants with higher starting BMIs. ----20:05, 25 December 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.74.171.238 (talk)

The record table is more complete, though it seem logical to break it into two tables, a male and female. The symmetry and smaller size would make it more readable —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.74.171.238 (talk) 06:23, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

#15 and #32?

Where did the statistics of ranks of Season 10 and 11 here come from? Sources should be presented here. I just checked it on Zap2it.com. Judging from today's TV ratings we can tell that TBL definitely won't rank that high in the end of this season. --Peterxj108 (talk) 07:33, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Braggadocio!!!

Season 11 - Couples #32 26. 43

26.43 million viewers? Any evidence? Who'll believe it???--Peterxj108 (talk) 05:17, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Too Many Records?

There are too many unnecessary records on the page. Falling Below the Line is not a record. The BMI record is not necessary nor is off campus weight (Arthur at 646 lbs.). Longest surviving couples also is not a necessary record. Please shorten the record table. It is too confusing to read. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.63.72.238 (talk) 20:36, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Light on weight loss information

This article seems to be heavy on criticisms of their process without actually laying out what they do, or what results they've acheived. I think it gives the impression that the show is universially condemned by health care professionas, but more importantly it makes it so you have the basic knowledge needed to understand the criticisms. I'm guessing it was assumed that this information would be already known to people, but I think that's a bad assumption.

"Healthy" Rate of Weight Loss

There is NOT, as suggested by a previous Wiki writer, any sort of medical opinion -- at least not any based on a scientific study -- that states losing 1-2 pounds per week is a healthy rate. In fact, there aren't ANY scientific studies that posit ANY rate at all as being more "healthy" than any other. This is one of those many myths that cropped up out there about weight loss and fitness that has somehow come to be3 taken as fact and passed around all over the internet and, indeed, doctors' offices.

Where this 1-2 pounds per week figure COMES FROM, originally, is from an examination of the openly available data of the National Weight Control Registry, that is a self-reported survey of an extremely large group of diverse people who can join the registry if they have lost at least 30 pounds and maintained that loss for at least one year. (Significantly, the average male has lost 70 pounds and maintained that loss for more than five years.)

I do not know offhand which study discovered this point among the database, but essentially, 1-2 pounds per week is the average rate at which the members of this group lost their weight. So that is where the figure came from, but it's meaning has NOTHING to do with it being a "healthy" rate. First, it is just a statistical average. Second, it is simply a correlation between that rate and the ability to lose a large amount of weight for most people and to successfully then keep the weight off.

One could reasonably conjecture that this slow rate, relative to the rate of contestants on the show, is more likely to result in success not just in losing the desired amoutn of weight, but in not yo-yoing by gaining the weight back again after you have stopped the diet and exercise you were doing to achieve the weight loss in the first place. However, it does appear that most contestants have been successful at maintaining their large losses.

So I am going to go in and edit what was there before, because it is dead wrong in what it is saying. But again, I do not have the actual study in front of me to cite, so for now I will merely remove the "health" part of the claim and keep the original cite there.

Hi, this page seems to a typo in the opening sentence:The Biggest Loser is an American is a show that debuted on NBC October 19, 2004. Just letting you know because I don't have time to sign up to edit myself right this minute. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.128.106.18 (talk) 08:11, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

The actual time between episodes: BL weeks are not seven days long

Someone should find out from the producers - and report on it - when there are 14 days between episodes, or four months between the last episode and the finale. A case in point: Season 15 winner appeared to lose 45 pounds between "weeks", when it was achieved in 3 or 4 months. This will create realistic expectations in viewers attempting to recreate the results of the show at home.
