Apparently the genres are pop, rock, rhythm and blues, jazz and blues. These are apparently supported by https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-best-of-vol-3-mw0000578534 and http://www.musicbox-online.com/reviews-2007/van-morrison-best-3-08312007.html. The problem with the second source is that it doesn't appear to be a viable source. But Let's assume it is. The first paragraph talks about how eclectic the album is while the third paragraph talks about influences on individual songs, but as we see in WP:GWAR, specifically, WP:EXPLICITGENRES, we need genres that are explicit and address the whole album, not just individual songs. AllMusic is shorter, more balanced, and definitely a reliable source. Stephen Thomas Erlewine writes that the album is idiosyncratic and comments on "Van's excursions into jazz, country, even skiffle seemed odd" (emphasis mine). He never states that the album is jazz, nor is it country or skiffle, but that songs make trips toward those genres. To state that the whole album is those genres, therefore, fails sourcing to support it. Pop, rock an R&B are not even mentioned by either reviewer. That was my reading at the initial revert of these additions, and is still stands. Please provide support that the album is these genres from the prose written on AllMusic and find a better source than musicbox-online.com. Walter Görlitz (talk) 02:32, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I really despair at what you’re trying to do here. The purpose of my edits was to solve an edit dispute by providing some sources (already used in the article) and you just create more conflict with this needless and tedious pedantry. The edits that you’ve just reverted contained genres that ARE in the text of the articles provided; clearly you aren’t reading them. To be honest I don’t even care; it’s such a non issue that I don’t have the time or energy to discuss it. Please, go and research and write an article, it’s much more rewarding. I'm sorry you despair. There is no pedantry at all. I am clearly reading them since I understand that the terms are used for one song or another (and I quote them!), but not the collection. Wikipedia requires that the sources clearly state one to three genres for the album, not a song here or there. Mentions of the genres do not imply that the whole album is in those genres.
