Move - Name of company edit

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was move. JPG-GR (talk) 06:03, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Australian Ballet is the correct name "The Australian Ballet (ballet company)" contains a redundancy - there is no need for this. Paul foord (talk) 02:39, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree with the redundancy, but there was a need. The previous "Australian Ballet Company" was plain wrong. I tried to move it to "The Australian Ballet", but the system prevented me. I chose the next best option, one with a descriptor "ballet company" in brackets. Just having "company" would not have been optimal. -- JackofOz (talk) 03:01, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I listed it at Wikipedia:Requested_moves#21_March_2008 Paul foord (talk) 05:24, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. The Australian Ballet is both the normal and the formal name of this organisation. Possibly uncontroversial. Andrewa (talk) 20:29, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - no need to have an incorrect name when all that is needed in administrator involvement. -- Beardo (talk) 01:42, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Discussion edit

The above discussion misses the point on several grounds. Firstly, and most important, please read Wikipedia:naming conventions (and possibly also the proposed clarification at Wikipedia:official names) before assuming that you know what the correct name is in terms of Wikipedia policy. Secondly, however we have come to this point, the important thing is where we go now. Andrewa (talk) 20:29, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Are you querying the use of "The", I also read Wikipedia:Naming conventions (definite and indefinite articles at beginning of name) and can't see your point. There will not be a need for disambiguation unless someone creates a ballet with the same name (the company has priority anyway) and "Ballet in Australia" would be preferred title for an article on that topic. Works section to be expanded edit

I think it is misleading to list only two random works in the Repertoire. This section needs to be deleted or significantly expanded. Does the Australian Ballet have a repertoire list available? Polecule (talk) 13:14, 13 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

More could be added about works performed, in 2008 - Rites (with Bangarra Dance Theatre) (reference: "Aboriginal ballet hits Paris stage" (html). ABC. 2008-09-30. Retrieved 2008-09-30.) is being performed in London and Paris. Paul foord (talk) 10:13, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

In 2017 I think that the page would be enhanced with a list of works performed, and especially list original works commissioned by the company, which have featured from their earliest seasons, of which the most globally popular would be the Merry Widow (ballet) Bebe Jumeau (talk) 21 November 2017 —Preceding undated comment added 14:58, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

List of dancers edit

Hi there, this is Kate Scott from the publications department of The Australian Ballet. Our newest intake of corps de ballet dancers are not yet reflected on this page. The most up-to-date company list can be viewed here http://www.australianballet.com.au/main.taf?p=5,1 should someone like to update the Wiki page. With thanks.

Kate you could have updated it. Anyone can. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.17.191.28 (talk) 12:17, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

appearance of conflict-of-interest edit

Actually Kate Scott's behavior in this matter is exemplary as Wikipedia bans conflict-of-interest and interprets the same very broadly. Were she to make the edits herself somebody could take her to task! Ms. Scott was wise to avoid even the appearance of conflict-of-interest. — Robert Greer (talk) 12:19, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Baronovsky Australian Ballet? edit

[Edouard] Borovansky had been a dancer in the touring ballet company of the famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova and, after visiting Australia on tour with the Covent Garden Russian Ballet, he decided to remain in Australia, establishing the country's first ballet school, then later the Baronovsky Australian Ballet.

I've found lots of sites that mention the "Baronovsky Australian Ballet", but who the heck was this otherwise unheard-of "Baronovsky" that he deserved to have a ballet company named after him? It is just a coincidence, or is it significant that Baronovsky is an anagram of Borovansky? Are all those other sites just mirrors of this article? -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 10:37, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Foremost Australian Ballet Compnay edit

Are there other classical ballet companies in Australia? Should they be linked or should the word foremost be removed? Wakelamp (talk) 23:30, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
