editRegarding [1] - I don't see how an individual coming to this page would confuse it with O alienista. Perhaps if there were another article on the English Wikipedia that also started with the words The Alienist, we could have a top note, but there is not. Cirt (talk) 19:10, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, it is a novella about psychiatry and perhaps some people think the translation is "The Alienist" rather than "The Psychiatrist"? Note it was first published in 1882, so I wonder if that would be the better translation. :) Awadewit (talk) 19:17, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

- "O alienista" has been translated into English as "The Alienist", although it is perhaps more popular as "The Psychiatrist". This makes a hatnote at The Alienist appropriate, per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The purpose here is not to avoid confusion with another article with a similar title, but to point readers to the proper article on a subject that may reasonably be known as "The Alienist". - It's not about confusion of the article title; it's about the fact that readers may come looking for Machado's work at The Alienist without knowing that the article about it is located at the original title. "Users searching for what turns out to be an ambiguous term may not reach the article they expected." Still, it's a style issue, and if you feel it inappropriate, leave it out. - If the story has been translated as "The Alienist", there should most definitely be a note here. I'm not sure why you think "no one would ever confuse them", Cirt, as we are talking about easy navigation and searching here, not about confusion of the articles.
