Changes needed

edit

Take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines for some opinions on article content and structure.

Some things to work on:

  • The article should not be mentioning individual students, teachers or coaches by name (apart from the principal), unless they are notable enough that they already have their own Wikipedia article.
  • The article needs references to sources that are not connected with the school. They don't necessarily have to be online, although they can be. A local library or staff at the school might be able to help. When was the school first opened? Wouldn't local newspapers have coverage of that?
  • Information that will be different each year is not really suitable for Wikipedia. It's trivial and is of no interest to anyone not connected with the school. So the dates of different sports programs should go.
  • Explain briefly in the article lead, what makes the school unique.

I've struck items that look fixed. Good progress! --Demiurge1000 (talk) 13:05, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Some third party sources

edit

Somewhere in this set of results, there might be some items that are worth including in the article. But remember we are trying to include just the key encyclopedic details relevant about the school - that will still be relevant in five years' time. Not everything that ever happened. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 01:52, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

How many third party sources are needed not that I am close I just want a number to aim for. Thanks @ d \/\/ | | |,~Adwiii -Questions? Comments? 02:02, 23 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Now that's a tricky question!
I've removed the template at the top of the article, because one third party source is a good start. But...
There is no maximum limit. Take a look at The Avery Coonley School and The Judd School which are Featured Articles (this means they are considered to be part of Wikipedia's best content - only nine articles about schools manage that, out of all the thousands). Lots and lots of references, including a book on "The English Fur Trade in the Later Middle Ages", of all things.
But, realistically, maybe aim for three or four to begin with. It's fine to post the links here for discussion if you're not sure whether they're suitable or not. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 06:51, 23 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I have a few third party sources related to the principal, should I create a new section or sub-section or just add another link for in the info box. @ d \/\/ | | |,~Adwiii -Questions? Comments? 12:16, 23 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I think there are too many short sections already. Maybe try this for a bit of re-structuring:
  • Main sections will be Organization, Curriculum, and Athletics.
  • Organization will contain most of the information from the current lead section, but leaving the basic statement of what the school is, and why the school is notable, in the lead where they are now. Organization will also say who the principal is, and any other information about him. As the article (hopefully) becomes longer, the lead is intended just to summarize what the rest of the article says, so it's OK for there to be a certain amount of repetition between what's in the lead and what's in the rest of the article.
  • Curriculum will be divided into sub-sections Performing Arts, Global Studies and Very Strong Needs Program. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 06:26, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Empty blog used as source

edit

Why is "hansmanonline" being cited in this article when it is A) a blog, and B) contains zero content, much less supporting any facts put forth in this article? Tiderolls 12:52, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I found some content on it yesterday, although I can't remember what if anything the content supported. I'll go find it again. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 12:58, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ah, there we are. If you click "Syllabus", the page purports to be officially connected with the school, and supports the statement "The 8th grade VSN at The Academy at Lincoln debates". Of course, as sources go, this is not a very good one... --Demiurge1000 (talk) 13:03, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the directions, Demiurge. I would've taken the Debate course's existence on faith. I couldn't understand the insistance on including a source with no content. All's well that end well, I suppose. Tiderolls 19:07, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

What Next?

edit

I just wanted to see if there were any suggestions as to what I need to add next. I am currently looking into famous people who have attended but that may take me awhile. I was just wondering if anyone had any requests/suggestions. (oh and side note im not trying to take ownership, anyone can edit the page its just i am the one who does the most on this page.) @ d \/\/ | | |Talk 21:03, 22 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
