Lack of a assassination section.

Given that he is the assassin of Shinzo Abe, and all of the presidential assassins have a section on the assassination they carried out, I feel like he should have one too. Death Editor 2 (talk) 02:21, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

I agree there should be one. The important information about the assassination is only mentioned in the lead. The lead section should only provide an accessible overview and summary of the article and touch on the important points mentioned in the body of the article. If it is mentioned in the lead, it also needs to be explained in the article. The article does everything but actually explain what this person is notable for. After all, Wikipedia is not a newspaper, and should not tease the reader by having something in the lead that is not discussed in the body. Admission of the assassination

@Jack4576: Hello. The Australian Financial Review citation provided by you is unfortunately locked behind paid wall, so I want to be doubly cautious if the source actually claims that Yamagami admitted to the accusations already. AFAIC There is no Japanese source specifically reporting so. He isn’t reported to have pleaded guilty in court, but he is reported to admitted to his guilt to the police. It’s contained within the source. I can’t resolve the paywall issue for you Jack4576 (talk) 13:01, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

The paywall can be circumvented by disabling JavaScript. The Australian Financial Review article [1] does state in its fifth paragraph that Yamagami admitted to the shooting: At a Nara police station, the suspect – a 41-year-old named Tetsuya Yamagami – admitted to the shooting barely 30 minutes after pulling the trigger. Source does not contain relevant information

Under the Motive section it says: "The agreement arranged the return of 50 million yen by the Unification Church. Tetsuya Yamagami's name and address was handwritten on the agreement."

There are two linked sources for this, one in Japanese and one in English, the English source does not state that 50 million yen was returned [1]. I cannot read the Japanese one. The English source should be removed. Calleastrom95 (talk) 10:45, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

The English Asahi source is cited for this statement: "the letter’s envelope also contained a “statement of mutual agreement” between the Unification Church and his family over donations, the sources said. The statement showed his handwritten name and address".

The Japanese Yomiuri source confirms the 50 million yen refund and is written in page 2: "差出人の名前は書かれていなかったが、同連合が母親側に献金の一部５０００万円を返した際の合意書が入っていた。そこには山上容疑者の氏名と住所も記されていた。" All in all both sources are relevant to the information which cites them. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 11:36, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
