Major battles, shock troops

Previous revision had the following statement in the 4th Sentence under this header "Major Battles, shock troops":

"At the Battle of Fort Pillow, the Texas Rangers were credited by Union survivors with refusing to participate in the massacre and with saving prisoners' lives."

This statement is NOT correct, so I deleted it. Terry's Texas Rangers, aka the 8th Texas Cavalry, were not at the Battle of Fort Pillow on April 12, 1864. The only Texas troops there were Willis' Texas Battalion. There was also a minor battle in May 1862 that resulted in the Confederates evacuating the fort. Terry's Texas Rangers were not involved in that battle, either. I have several references, including 3 books strictly about the 1864 Battle of Fort Pillow and several regimental histories and history of West Tennessee campaigns. The only place that I can find this mentioned is a website that is an exact copy of this Wikipedia article. — Preceding comment added by GearDown (talkcontribs) 02:50, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
