Talk:Terminal tractor

Shunt seems to be a Canadian from UK English term, not used in the U.S. for much of anything. COE is not typical in U.S., almost all HD trucks are conventional. It’s a fifth wheel here. 5” is the ram diameter, not the lift.Sammy D III (talk) 20:48, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Article name change from shunt truck to terminal tractor edit

I viewed some producers' web sites for the correct name of the vehicle, just in case there come any disputes.

Manufacturers edit

There are many manufacturers of terminal tractors. I don't see why we have AutoCar listed at the bottom of the article and not the other manufacturers. Either remove this one or list the others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.7.64.244 (talk) 14:32, 5 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

What do you mean? There are also other manufacturers mentioned: Tico Tractor, Capacity, Kalmar, Ottawa, Orange EV, Sisu Terminal Systems and Terberg. --Gwafton (talk) 17:20, 5 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
May be the user means the Commons Cat leading actually to "Autocar vehicles". Not a good idea. So I make a better link leading to Commons Cat "Terminal tractors".Spielvogel (talk) 08:47, 5 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

This video claims that "Harry Hal Lauthor" in Ottawa, Kansas was the inventor of the concept. I found zero results of this online. TGCP (talk) 19:16, 26 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

The closest I found was this deadurl primary source. TGCP (talk) 19:26, 26 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
The footage claims that the first Ottawa terminal tractor was introduced back in 1958. According to the website of Douglas family, Douglas Tugmaster came to the market in the early 1950s and a model designed in particular for Ro-Ro ships came in 1955. I have heard in the past that it was Douglas that invented the concept but unfortunately I don't have a source for that. Gwafton (talk) 07:53, 27 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Remove obsolete comments? edit

Looks like all these points are now obsolete. Should we remove them?Sedimentary (talk) 14:46, 13 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

They are not obsolete. They might become topical if someone wants to question the article name etc. --Gwafton (talk) 19:59, 13 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
